Two influential US senators got "VIP" loans from a leading subprime mortgage lender that saved them tens of thousands of dollars, it was reported last night.
The Democratic pols, Chris Dodd of Connecticut and Kent Conrad of North Dakota, both received the highly favorable loans under the designation "Friend of Angelo," a reference to embattled Countrywide head Angelo Mozilo, Condé Nast Portfolio reported.
Dodd is chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, while Conrad is chairman of the Budget Committee and a member of the Finance Committee. The two senators refinanced properties through the VIP program in 2003 and 2004, the report said.
How these guys get away with this stuff is incredible.

You might want to edit your post title. Countrytime is a lemonade mix, Countrywide is the loan organization.
Thanks, I'm sure that they are also taking kickbacks and bribes from the lemonaide people too.

They're all the same. Maybe someday more people will realize that fact.

"The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him." Leo Tolstoy, 1897
What country time and country wide. Not to change the thread but i thought countrywide was put down, kaput, out of buisness.
There website is still up and operational, so I don't think they locked up the doors completely. A bunch of people I know worked there over the last 5+ years. These guys got my bestfriend a job there about 2 years ago. Anyhow, my bf quit after 5-6 months on the job, cuz he couldn't screw people the way everyone else there was. My buds honest & ethical, and the job wasn't. My buds take is that there are incredibly stupid people out there who don't know basic economics, or simply math, and that the sub-prime industry is full of snakes who's only care is lining their pockets at any cost. Really tragic all around.

Good one!
What is shocking about this is how little the shock is created about this. Were it not for your thread, I might never have heard of this. There's so many other pressing matters being covered on the news tonight...like the shocking death of Tim Russert and the news that gas prices are high...not to mention that Obama's a liberal and McCain is not!
Dodd is the head of the bamking committee, which oversees the mortgage committee, he shoudl resign his chairmanship. Being a dem the MSM won't demand it.
If Dodd and Conrad were pubbies the MSM would be demanding a special prosecuter and that thye resign from the Senate, since they are libs this story will be gone in 24 hrs...unless RW bloggers keep it alive.

We just have to try to evaluate them the best we can."
