Default Wussification at it's best.

No tag, no recess, no red ink....and now, no slides!

Fifty years without an accident, but slide is taken down just in case...

For half a century youngsters have enjoyed the 10ft slide in the playground, with no more serious mishap than the occasional bruise or grazed knee.

Many of the parents bringing their children had themselves played on the towering steel structure years ago.

The tradition has, however, been brought to an abrupt halt by that modern scourge, health and safety.

The slide was fenced off last summer while investigations into a nearby collapsed drain were carried out. It has now been dismantled amid concerns that it could cause serious injury.

This about sums it up.

That slide looks fun.

Of course the reason it was taken down is liability, because you know if some kid got hurt on the slide, even if he was doing a handstand on a skateboard going down it, there'd be a huge lawsuit coming, and the town is screwed.

Sucks.

Back when I was painting we worked in a house that a young couple owned, they had just had their first baby. They immediately made plans to install wall to wall carpet over the entire house, including the stairs so the child wouldn't hurt himself while crawling.

Funny part? The guy who owned the house had grown up in it with his 2 brothers.
My father asked him if he or they had ever gotten hurt. "No," he says.

Dee dee dee...

Stupid stuff. Like George Carlin said about mandatory bike helmets : "soon kids are going to have to wear helmets when they jack off".

My kids' (elementary) school has banned some stuff but they have slides, swings, and let the kids play kickball, dodgeball, all that kind of stuff.

It reminds me of the movie Little Giants when the boney kids mom wraps him up in cushion and sends him to football practice. This planet is becoming more wussified as the seconds roll along.

Wistah, the drugs that kids are put on these days is criminal. My gf is a sped teacher, and she's alarmed by how many kids are simply handed meds for acting like kids. We're destroying our future generation.
