NEXT!
If someone wants to get votes...propose a flat tax and move the flunk ON. Its not that difficult, is it? We have people from all ends of the political spectrum on this board, and the ONE thing pretty much most of us can agree on is that we all pay the same % in taxes without loopholes.
why do these politicians think that we need to do anything other than to KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid)
20% across the board
Billionaires? 20%
20k/year? 20%
NO LOOPHOLES!
quit with this 997 shizzz...nobody gets it Herm.

You want to get nominated on the pubbie side, you just say 0 taxes of any kind. (The watch the next guy say everybody will have a negative income tax, i.e., welfare. Or just the rich, to be fair about it, b/c they're the job creators.)
I differ w/your "everybody agrees" 20% across the board.
People hate that they don't understand all the crap in the tax code, but I am
for the use of the tax code to encourage beneficial development.
For example, we will never spontaneously develop green energy, as has been pointed out here repeatedly.
The right likes to say that this proves that green energy is wrong and bad, because it's quite unimpressive to the Holy Market.
The difficulty is that we need to develop it, and have already sunk costs into another infrastructure, before we realized it'll destroy the planet.
At present, it's cheaper to buy fossil energy. By the time green energy's cheaper without any further investment, badda bing badda boom, it's too late. It'll be a wrenching change. Hell, it will be even
with incentives.
So for that example (and there's a million others,) you would have to mandate the national energy policy and nationalize all the utilities, as the eventual alternative to using tax incentives.
So yeah, if there's no social benefit to a subsidy, for the
whole country, not one or two guys, get rid of it.
But you want a world of tax breaks or a world of mandates?
Tell me what other tools you would use, if you don't think these two cover it... and figure out how you'd apply those tools before zapping the current system.
Baby, bathwater.
