Well to repeat something that has been posted on another thread about Cain's plan that the OP may have missed. The 9-9-9 is Phase 1 to get to the Fair Tax the Fait Tax has always had a exemption to cover sales tax up to the poverty level in the form of a prebate issued to everyone.

This is also noted on his site. The opportunity zones have been on the website all along the recent comments started detailing what the opportunity zones are.

This is very poor reporting from someone who apparently never looked at his website or understood what was being said.

Perry is coming out with a Flat Tax proposal. I am glad that at least he and Cain are challenging the 72k unfair monstrosity we currently deal with . It is hard to believe that lbis want to defend the status quo and pretend changes around the edges will matter. Then complain about breaks for millionaires and corps.....

We just have to try to evaluate them the best we can."

Apart from his speech today Cain has never mentioned what places would be in his opportunity zone(s). Even today he only mentioned Detroit.

What is the 72k unfair monstrosity?

I guess you are smarter than everyone else on this board as you blindly follow the GOP and call GOP members who don't follow the paryt line RINOS.

Phase 2 – The Fair Tax

Amidst a backdrop of the economic renewal created by the 9-9-9 Plan, I will begin the process of educating the American people on the benefits of continuing the next step to the Fair Tax.

Ultimately replaces individual and corporate income taxes
Ends the IRS as we know it and repeals the 16th Amendment

THIS dude is the frontrunner?

NEXT!

If someone wants to get votes...propose a flat tax and move the flunk ON. Its not that difficult, is it? We have people from all ends of the political spectrum on this board, and the ONE thing pretty much most of us can agree on is that we all pay the same % in taxes without loopholes.

why do these politicians think that we need to do anything other than to KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid)

20% across the board

Billionaires? 20%
20k/year? 20%
NO LOOPHOLES!

quit with this 997 shizzz...nobody gets it Herm.
You want to get nominated on the pubbie side, you just say 0 taxes of any kind. (The watch the next guy say everybody will have a negative income tax, i.e., welfare. Or just the rich, to be fair about it, b/c they're the job creators.)

I differ w/your "everybody agrees" 20% across the board.

People hate that they don't understand all the crap in the tax code, but I am for the use of the tax code to encourage beneficial development.

For example, we will never spontaneously develop green energy, as has been pointed out here repeatedly.

The right likes to say that this proves that green energy is wrong and bad, because it's quite unimpressive to the Holy Market.

The difficulty is that we need to develop it, and have already sunk costs into another infrastructure, before we realized it'll destroy the planet.

At present, it's cheaper to buy fossil energy. By the time green energy's cheaper without any further investment, badda bing badda boom, it's too late. It'll be a wrenching change. Hell, it will be even with incentives.

So for that example (and there's a million others,) you would have to mandate the national energy policy and nationalize all the utilities, as the eventual alternative to using tax incentives.

So yeah, if there's no social benefit to a subsidy, for the whole country, not one or two guys, get rid of it.

But you want a world of tax breaks or a world of mandates?

Tell me what other tools you would use, if you don't think these two cover it... and figure out how you'd apply those tools before zapping the current system.

Baby, bathwater.

You laugh, but Bachman did say that in one of the debates (before going on to say that there should be some taxes, of course... and in doing so, completely ignoring the question).
