Of course there will be those who will whine about this somehow, it is expected in this partisan world.. unfortunately those who lied about this will never be held accountable.

President Barack Obama on Friday declared an end to the Iraq war, one of the longest and most divisive conflicts in U.S. history, announcing that all U.S. troops would be withdrawn from the country by year's end.

“As promised the rest of our troops in Iraq will come home by the end of the year. After nearly nine years, America's war in Iraq will be over,” Obama said.

"Today I can say that troops in Iraq will be home for the holidays."

The president made the announcement at a White House briefing following a private video conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. Obama said the two were in full agreement about how to move forward.

Mission accomplished.

And yet another piece of evidence to support the notion that Obama has been a very good president on foreign policy.

I liked this war better the first time we fought it, when it was called Vietnam

That is great but we all know that the USA will have a military presence in Iraq for a long, long time. We have bases in Korea, Japan, Germany, the Philippines, etc. Sad but true.

Bush set this up back in 2008 at least Obama didn't screw it up.

Draft Accord With Iraq Sets Goal of 2011 Pullout - NYTimes.com

Quote:
BAGHDAD — The United States has agreed to remove combat troops from Iraqi cities by next June and from the rest of the country by the end of 2011 if conditions in Iraq remain relatively stable, according to Iraqi and American officials involved in negotiating a security accord governing American forces there.

Draft Is Set to Keep U.S. Forces on Iraqi Soil (August 21, 2008)

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice accompanied by Iraq's national security adviser, Mouwaffak al-Rubaie, left, arrives in the heavily fortified Green Zone in Baghdad.
The withdrawal timetables, which Bush administration officials called “aspirational goals” rather than fixed dates, are contained in the draft of an agreement that still must be approved by Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki and other Iraqi leaders before it goes before Iraq’s fractious Parliament. It has the support of the Bush administration, American and Iraqi officials said.

We just have to try to evaluate them the best we can."

Oh yeah? Is that why the GOP presidential contenders are blasting Obama over it?

I dont mean to hijack, but I thought we closed the Philippines after the Volcano there. Not sure if all are out of there, but the big base at Subic Bay was closed.
