Missions by special forces and air strikes by unmanned drones have "decapitated" the Taliban and brought the war in Afghanistan to a "tipping point", the commander of British forces has said.
The new "precise, surgical" tactics have killed scores of insurgent leaders and made it extremely difficult for Pakistan-based Taliban leaders to prosecute the campaign, according to Brig Mark Carleton-Smith.
In the past two years an estimated 7,000 Taliban have been killed, the majority in southern and eastern Afghanistan. But it is the "very effective targeted decapitation operations" that have removed "several echelons of commanders".
This in turn has left the insurgents on the brink of defeat, the head of Task Force Helmand said.

I'll be happier when they pass over the "brink" . but yeah........ Very good news indeed. Most who pay attention have known this was occuring nice to see it getting VERY LITTLE, but some press all the same.
Ditto, for Iraq. We could actually win there too. Not that anyone cares or wants to discuss it anymore.
Whether you hate the war or not, this is good news.

Yea,
Lets invade Brazil, now...I bet we could win there eventually, too.
That's great news that the Brits have been able to beat the Taliban six years after our ADD made us turn to Iraq. I'm sure we helped a lot, BTW. What's the over-under on how long it will take for them to make another comeback?
Just a month ago, reports were that the Taliban was regaining footholds all over the country, and the "coalition" was losing ground.... Either there's been a dramatic turnaround in recent weeks, or someone's lying.

Huh, what? I thought we already lost on both fronts? It can't be true.

"The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him." Leo Tolstoy, 1897
