Comcast fires Barry Nolan over Bill O’Reilly protest
Quote:
CN8 has fired veteran TV journalist Barry Nolan for publicly protesting the decision by the local Emmy Awards to honor Fox News blowhard Bill O’Reilly.
“He’s delusional,” Nolan said of O’Reilly, a former Boston TV anchor. “He’s a man that mangles the facts.”
“When they announced O’Reilly people booed,” Nolan said, “and it wasn’t me. I was quiet.”
Now you can get fired for just pointing out the obvious

Before the May 10 awards, Nolan sent e-mails to industry colleagues encouraging them to write to the Emmy governors - if they shared his opinion - and let them know “this is an appalling choice for an honor.”
“He’s delusional,” Nolan said of O’Reilly, a former Boston TV anchor. “He’s a man that mangles the facts.”
At the awards, Nolan said he quietly put fliers on tables that “simply had” quotes from O’Reilly as well as three pages from the sexual harassment lawsuit O’Reilly settled that was brought by his former producer.
Security approached Nolan and told him he couldn’t distribute information at the event.
Nolan says he has no regrets about speaking out against giving O’Reilly “the highest honor” that the local Emmy Awards can bestow. Past winners include Mike Wallace and Natalie Jacobson.
Apparently not enough people shared his opinion in the first place, and putting fliers on the tables at that point was simply rude, IMO (not saying I wouldn't have done it...just acknowledging it was rude! ), and that well known fair and balanced reporter Mike Wallace, who's so far off the rails his own son has said "we're having him medicated now".
I can't stand O'Reilly, but these people voted to give him the honor. Nolan should've just quit in protest, instead of his little weaseling putting fliers on tables. Now if Nolan had resigned in protest...big news, principled stand, maybe O'Reilly himself gets involved and draws more attention to it. This way...a third rate tv host gets canned.

So where is the outcry from those who whined about Fox calling Michael Moore "portly"? This stuff happens all the time people. It's not a big deal.

"The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him." Re: Comcast fires Barry Nolan over Bill O’Reilly protest
I can't begin to express how uncomfortable I am with people getting fired over personal opinions like this. And I like O'Reilly (sometimes more than others), but why should this guy be fired. It's like Imus. Being fired for such innocuous stupid crap really really bugs me, no matter what. The companies should be better than this.
The only shining example recently was that Cafferty wasn't fired from CNN for referring to China's government as "thugs," to which the word police promptly removed from its context and tried to say that he was implying that about ALL Asians in general. It's stupid and harmful to our society to act like this.
How about we stop acting like babies and giving stupid words such power.
Re: Comcast fires Barry Nolan over Bill O’Reilly protest
The guy didn't get fired over his personal opinion, he got fired because he acted like a jackass! Handing out fliers at an awards banquet, talk about being delusional.
Another shining example of the left's "tolerance" for other views.

Asked, and answered.
You probably can't get fired for your personal opinion, but you can for acting like a douche-bag.

What's your excuse then?
Anyhow, I love when people try to qualify things with "I hate Bill O'Reilly, but..." when, in fact, they adhere to most of BOR's viewpoints, and come running to his aid in almost every thread about the Face of Fox, himself.

The bullshyt meter is off the charts...
Who in this thread--besides me--said the equivalent of "I hate BOR but..."?
