Yeah--I don't live in Mass, and the amount you guys have to pay down there pisses ME off too.
You know why? Because a whole lot of YOU guys are moving up HERE, and you know what that means? Y'all get up here and the first things you do is look around and say "we need this service" and "that service" and then the next thing you know my property taxes are going up $10 or $20 a thousand to pay for the 3 new firetrucks and the school lacrosse team and whatnot.
Christ. Vote in people to lower the cost of living in Mass and stay the hell in your own state.
Ahh a.paul, a fellow NHer? I couldn't agree more, though we do love the tourism $$$.

Well, the myth that Massachusetts has especially high taxes is easily debunked. In fact, such liberal states as Kansas, Ohio, Utah, and South Carolina rank higher than we do:
We've been through this before. Tolls, fees, fines, etc. are not calculated. They all add to government contribution to the cost of living. Remember, there is more than one way to skin a cat.
BTW, according to your list, the overall tax burden in MA puts the state at #7 out of 50. Or is it 57 states? No, there's 60 right? I'm so confused!

Do you have any idea what tolls, fees, fines, etc. are in other states? I know of no evidence that says we pay higher fees and tolls. Do you? As far as the overall tax burden, yes, it does appear that if you factor in federal taxes, our tax rate is higher. But, that has nothing to do with the piont being made about how Massachusetts government manages taxes and, in addition, may may well reflect that we have a higher per capita income than most other states, putting us into a higher income tax bracket.

Poor Patters. You'll never really get it. Taxes are one stream where which a government can add to a citizens burden. MA is the 47th most expensive state to do business in. Think that adds to a persons cost of living? Get an inspection sticker in the last couple of years? How much is that costing? License a gun lately? Was $25, now it's $100. Drive over the Tobin? The Pike? Soon to be I-93? Get a parking ticket in town lately? How about your trash pick up? Guess what, that's not included in my taxes anymore. It's a separate FEEEEEEEEEEE. But hey, we're helping out the Waltham Tourism Council, and we built that gazeebo in Lowell last year.

We're invading other sovereign states and spreading our brand of democracy and our way of life. Resistance is FUTILE!

Tell me about it. Oddly enough though, the damn transplanted scissorbeaks are the first ones to b!tch about their taxes being too high. You know, on the 18 room McMansion they had to build for the husband, wife, 2.3 kids and the requisite Golden Retriever.
