"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said.
"That's not leadership. That's not going to happen," he added.
The Illinois senator also argued that the differences between his healthcare plan and that of Clinton "pale in comparison to the differences we have with John McCain," whose proposals would only work "if you're healthy and wealthy."
Oh dear. Where to start ?

Well we get better mileage than a Chevy truck or some '80s car that some poor guy drives around the city. But it's easy to pander and pick on a vehicle that's owned by people that Obama doesn't like even though they aren't the problem.

I think this one is self evident as stupid. Of course, people who like Obama also want to use food as fuel. But let's not mention that.

Actually, I have tried turning off my heating/cooling during the day when I'm gone and found that it uses more energy to cool down/heat up from extremes of heat and cold rather than keeping it at a constant temperature.

OK, we have about 50M uninsured right now, google tells me. And about 12M illegals who most people don't want to get free healthcare. That leaves 38M uninsured who aren't illegal. We have about 300M people in the country. 25% are under 18 which leaves 225M. OK, 225M legal adults. 38M uninsured. So Obama say that 83% of Americans are "wealthy". (note, I subtracted all kids even though 10% are said to be uninsured which is part of the 38M so my numbers are actually skewed to hurt my argument by a little bit).
Ha ha Obama. Gotcha.
I want to tell him to (Please be quiet - edited). But I think the more he talks, the less chance he has.

There are millions of Americans who can't stand the sight of him strutting and hopping around as though he was "King Of The World", he is a f-cking jerk kid, you aren't hearing anything from those millions, they are quietly sitting and watching this concieted punk prance around like a sappy rock star but they will make themselves heard in November.
All the "Baracko Noise" we hear now come from his groupies and the Left Wing Politically Correct MEDIA.
Mccain has a lot of "Lefty" in him so if he was smart he would pick a younger guy with a lot of "Righty" in him for his VP, if he does this he will win.
Prince Obama is a "new toy", he will be a joke as President but if he does win we will get through it, America has overcome far worse things than Barack H Obama, the bad thing about it though is Terror, they are waiting and drooling because they know Obama won't continue with the security we have now, Obama and his LIBERALISM will make it possible for another "easy attack" a big one with many lost lives and the people that vote for him will have the blame laid right in their laps.
Obama Is A Very Real Threat To The Safety Of All Americans.

In The Absence Of Law And Order Society Will Surely Destroy Itself
A group of individuals anoints themselves as better-informed than the rest of us. They base this largely on the fact that they listen to the same programs on NPR and consistently vote Democrat.
The self-defined elite group comes to an agreement that the rest of us are not as enlightened as they. This is expressed in many ways, usually involving code words such as "clinging", "mean-spirited", or "greedy". If you hear these words being applied to you or your associates, this is a clear indication that you are not one of the elites.
The elites begin to develop a sense of responsibility for their lessers. This is often expressed in statements like, "It's just makes me so sad to see them like that. I wish there were something we could do to..."
The elites form a plan. The plan generally involves making everyone else behave like them. As enthusiasm rises, what were once "differences" become "problems" and finally metamorphose into a "crisis". When the word "crisis" appears, this usually signals the end of planning phase. The Plan predictably contains the following elements: coercion, moral superiority, lack of debate and voting, and a succession of "experts" who testify on its behalf.
The plan is imposed. If the legislative branch refuses, the judiciary is prevailed upon to conjure up a constitutional justification.
The plan begins to fail. This step is usually followed by demands for more resources to "properly implement the plan", (see the War on Poverty), and angry accusations at non-elite groups for their mean spirited, clingy refusal to change.
The plan fails.
SUVs on average have worse fuel consumption than do regular cars, that's a fact. Congrats on your exception BF but it completely misses the point.
America uses more energy, food and fuel than it needs to. This is a problem environmentally and, as he said, it sets a bad example for the rest of the world. He's not talking about sweeping reformds, he's talking about little things that can make a huge impact.
It's not "elitist" you overly-sensitive nitwits, it's accurate. Just because you are incapable of hearing anything out of a presidential candidate that isn't, "America is the greatest, everything we do is perfect," doesn't mean that a deviation from this is "elitist." Seriously take some constructive criticism and stop being such nationalistic babies.

Obama is going to lose the precious Oprah endorsement if he takes away her Snickers stash.
Since when do we need acceptance from other countries to keep our homes at 72 degrees?
As long as I am paying the bills , my family is going to eat when they are hungry and stay warm in the winter. I do not need the UN's acceptance to take care of my family.
I get a kick out of the shot at the SUV drivers.
Maybe we should all be like Brad and Angelina and drive a prius and then
take a private Jet to Namibai on 11,000 gallosn of Jet fuel. http://jalopnik.com/cars/celebrities...ags-210038.php

Obama could save us lots of fuel if he took the train instead of jet ...
If I'm going to get lectured on fuel consumption I would be fine with that if that persons "carbon footprint" were less than mine. Obama's is way higher than mine ... therefore he should (Please be quiet - edited).
BTW: a mere 10 months ago Obama drove a 300C ...
BTW-BTW: That was a mere 2 months after announcing he was running
for President ... he didn't need a car anymore did he?
Like that super liberal John "I wear a hairpiece" Travolta ... lectures
us about the environment while he flies planes for fun ... in fact.
this thread's original post is a completely distorted turd sandwich...
utterly irrational, extrapolated and noticeably prefaced by a qualifier that actually says something along the lines of "i'm not being racist, but" ... noted, BF. ... but, ya know? your capitalist, "how dare you charge me a penny more i'm willing to sacrifice on iraq" view on the world is showing once again. ... save the outrage, and listen to what he's saying...
and, FBN, the man travels to speak, does he not?... it stands to reason his carbon footprint would be a bit higher than the average John Q. Public who sits on his ass and lets the cable TV wash over him... what is your specific point with that angle? he shouldn't travel? or he should do so in a ford taurus?
dunno about you, but i recognize something: what we are experiencing in western society is a distinct class war in the face of an energy crisis... we are and will be faced with energy conservation, and to a disruptive degree... whether we like it or not... the markets will not solve this one... every human being needs to think about living differently... or we, and especially our kids and grandkids, can all start imaging rolling blackouts, and three-shift workdays... nevermind car pooling, and a whole lot more "clean coal" in our air...
on this course, if you're under 40 or so, you will experience a major darwinist change, in your lifetimes... and that includes broader war ... i'm fairly convinced of it... I can't begrudge a leader who acknowledges this scenario and recognizes the state of the world and the energy famine that is on the near horizon...
you had better vote in a president who pays attention to the planet before one who ignores it... i'm sorry, Mr. free-market-will-solve-everything guy, but it's not all rosey ... not in the least... John McCain seems to think everything is fine, ... if we just keep it in there a little while longer and stay the course... yada yada...
Obama may not be a perfect candidate, but he's better than the alternative ... i can tell you that...
What the next leader of this country must decide on is whether or not he's willing to spend the $10-15 trillion it will likely cost to completely transfer from fossil fuels and onto something else... or whether he'd rather sink another $3-4 trillion on the "War on Terror" and bully the remaining crude for ourselves... "to hell with the rest of the world"... "the American way of life is not negotiable," ... you know, that kind of thinking that we see right here in this forum. ... John McCain wants "more wars," he even said the words... He's damn sure not ready to make the financial sacrifice needed in alternative energy...
So, starting a thread that actually says "Obama - you make me sick" truly shows just how out of touch certain people are. ... terrified, as if the survival of their very savings account is somehow at risk should some "socialist black man" take over the White House.
Man, i just can not wait til this guy gets on the same stage in the TV debates with old "Maverick." It's gonna be carnage.

This is one of these threads that make me shake my head, no where is the polarization more obvious.. they hysteria and hyperbole of a few comments are spun into what might happen, rather than what is happening. During any campaign there are promise after promise made, however the reality is that most of this stuff is so institutionalized that the possibility of change does not exist..
The reality is that we are consuming too much, and there is a need to look at this.. whether it be our expenditures in Iraq, our agriculture or our health care.. just read somewhere else that medicare is underfunded as well as the traditional concerns about social security.. maybe it time to move away from the make believe approach.. something is happening here.

Yeah he's gonna take the train everywhere, I'm sure that wouldn't negatively impact his campaign and advantage Mccain or anything
I guess because John Travolta flies a jet that means they aren't bad for the environment. I agree that someone who flies jets for recreation (and is part of a pyramid scheme) shouldn't be preaching about personal restraint, but that really has no bearing on what Obama said at all, other than to show the absurd lengths the right will go to smear Obama. Good luck with that.

Who says? And I don't mean BHO's opinion, I mean this honestly, who says?
We pay for it, why shouldn't we use it? China is trying like hell to catch up with our usage. You gonna tell them to stop?
