Hey, leave Travolta alone. He doesn't drive an SUV. Atleast I don't see one in this picture of his home.
Do you?
John Travolta's home/airport.
He must be out in his 'copter...the pad's empty.
Jeeziz, it must be tough trying to sneak in after you're out drinking with the guys at the strip joint.

Maybe he needs to get his ***** together. However I think it's more evil than that, it's class warfare because only the "rich" have SUVs and he doesn't want Joe with a '91 Chevy to know Obama is coming after him too. More class warfare on the health insurance quote.
Yes, there is class warfare as the wealthy do everything that can to extract as much from our COMMON economy as they can, even if it's at the expense of the poor and middle class. Until the wealthy stop waging that class war, there will naturally be a response. As I've said before I oppose the socialist tax system that you seem to favor. Taxes should be subject to market pressures, especially given the global mobility of the wealthy. Raise taxes for the rich, lower them for everyone else, until it starts to backfire and then make necessary changes. In other words, run the government like a business, and don't give in to the softies who want the government to protect them from natural market forces. In all truth, BF, given your view that business owners should have the right to discriminate, it's hard to see why you would want anything but market forces to regulate our economy, including taxes.
Problem is, Obama's not about to say the word "tax" from now until November. The Dem's will have to shake the perception that they are in favor of more taxes as opposed to the Republicans. Taxes are a buzz word in this election and will continue to be as long as the economy limps along. When (and if) he becomes president, Obama should impose a gas tax and give relief to truckers on deisel.
I can't believe how many Lexus Liberals I see on the Pike at the Newton tolls (they're easy to spot) driving alone. There's thousands of cars every day and they ALL HAVE ONE PASSENGER! Until people decide how serious they want to be regarding commuting and public transportation, they need to (Please be quiet - edited) about SUV's and hybrid cars.
I wonder whether this driving alone thing is a result of our need for personal time to be alone and think. Our lives are so complicated and our schedules have become so packed with crap and multiple layers of communication that maybe we need to commute alone in the car with the cell phone shut off and the music on. But then again , seems everyone,s on the cell while they're driving...I dunno.
I'm a bit perplexed by your post. If people want to drive alone, what business is it of yours? Also, why should the government subsidize truckers? Does the government subsidize my line of work?
Sorry to say, but from the quotes provided, Obama's words sound elitist. People in this country, at least not your average American, don't want to be told how to live, nor do they want to be held to a foreignors standards. This sounds like the "clinging" line he tossed out there last month. He's going to scare away more people than he attracts if he consistently speaks this way. People don't want a "holier than thou" dreamer in the highest seat. They want someone that has been dragged through the mud. Obama sounds like that young kid who hasn't quite grasped reality.

It's funny how people support Amnesty, which is a direct hammer to the middle class, yet try to blame the rich for it's costs. It's even funnier how people talk about "fear" politics, then go out and use class warfare as a campaign tool. The very people who propose gas hikes, talk class warfare. Afterall, the middle class doesn't use gas. Rich people are the ones who will feel a $2 hike at the pump, and all the corresponding costs that comply, right? Increases in sales taxes, alchohol taxes, cigarette taxes, fees, fines, tolls, etc. are all things that hurt the rich . When such budrens are imposed upon a society, they hurt the people who earn less, and not those that earn more. Yet, the people will still point a finger at the rich, for all that's wrong. Afterall, they are the one's that have grown government, and increased the cost of living for the middle, and lower classes.

No one's pointing the finger at the rich. We are simply trying to address a problem. The problem is that the government needs to raise lots of money. You think the government should cut back so it doesn't to raise so much money. I disagree with that. I favor government programs, so it needs more money.
I favor Amnesty (because I see it as a viable solution to a real problem), so we need more money. The more money we sink in, the better the job. For instance, let's hire enough teachers to ensure that immigrants become fluent in English, not just learn enough to get by. If we are going to have an Amnesty, let's do it the right way, but our political system will likely force a compromise that sucks from both our points of view. But I digress....
How should the government get more money? Raise taxes, and let the market decide how much to raise taxes and for whom to raise taxes. There are several metrics by which to monitor this: elections, stock market indexes, other economic indexes, and government revenues, to name a few. To me, that's the logic of capitalism.

It wasn't very clear, was it?
I never stated that the Government should prevent people from driving alone. My point was that so-called "environmentalists" who talk a lot and don't do anything should (Please be quiet - edited) when they're driving the Porche Cayenne or even their Prius from Dover to Boston alone. Americans have a love affair with their cars, and are unwilling to share their car or give it up, like they would a mate.
About the "subsidy" for the drivers...I think there should be a lag time or a scheduled increase on the tax on deisel. These people are getting killed because they are working under contract that don't allow for rapid increases in fuel costs. The government can't up the tax on them while the president or whoever makes decisions that directly influence the price of fuel. There is also the trickle down effect on the economy. In my business, I don't sign any contract that is so long out that I can't absorb the cost of material increases. Truckers don't alsays have this luxury. And now Mexican drivers can cross the border with their Mexican fuel and have an unfair advantage over US truckers. That was a direct result of the NAFTA treaty.

Government "income" is at record highs. As many people know, it's not an income problem it's a spending problem.

There might be a spending problem, but obviously that depends on what you think the government should spend money on. And, in the end, we have the age old problem that Larry Craig want new weapons and Ted Kennedy wants more welfare, so they compromise and give each other 75% of what they wanted, which costs us 150% of what they individually request. I don't see a way around that in a democracy. Now, as far as waste and fraud go, I honestly think that's something we're all for fighting.
At any rate, even if spending was cut, I would favor using the free market to set tax policy. The rich would be okay with it as long as the economy remained profitable enough for them.
America has worked very hard at "being free" many many Americans have died since this country was born to Preserve that Freedom.
America will not sit by and allow a Left Wing Progressive Socialist like Obama tell them how to live their private lives but if we are not careful people like Obama can destroy much of the freedom we now have and the first people to suffer that loss are the people who now support him, how long do you think an "Obama Dictatorship" would put up with Sean Penn "Cindy Sheehan" or The NY Times?
Aren't any of you "Obama People" curious about him, don't you want to know more about him, you should.

Harry, that's a pretty paranoid post. If you've read any of Obama's writings or read about his life, you'll realize that he not some sort of a demogague who wants to turn our country into some sort of dictatorship. In fact, it's ludicrous to think that. While there are some young people who seem to worship him, generally his supporters are objective and know that none of his positions are particularly liberal and he has not laid out a bold agenda in any way. But, he's attracting so much interest because he's probably the greatest orator alive and by virtue of his race he's making history. What do you know about him that I apparently don't?
