NRA, baning noise, gun, Obama ducking for cover = Huckabee saying BO is afraid of guns, or maybe his saying he's a wuss. When you see it, as opposed to reading it, the proper context is easy to identify. Sadly, it's looking more and more like you won't be able to say anything at all, without everyone making it Obama, and/or race related. That's really not a good thing.
I don't know, RW. I just saw the clip. Replayed it, too.

The first part of the joke "That was Barack Obama, he just tripped off a chair" got a good laugh from the audience.

The second line "somebody aimed a gun at him and he dove for the floor" got a far different murmur from the NRA audience.

You and I may differ on the impact of those words, but from that video, the NRA audience (not one known to be especially PC sensitive) it sounded like the vast majority of them were groaning uncomfortably on that second part.

Why did they groan? Because they have seen and read the same articles and reports for months that you and I have seen. There IS speculation out there that Obama perhaps needs more security than other candidate in the past. It's not an indictment of this nation. There will always be a fraction of one percent of ANY nation that will be the "screw-loose" constituency. For that fraction of one percent, you bet, the thought of a black President is enough to set them off.

Joking about potential assassinations of ANYONE, let alone national politicians, in public speeches is not cute or funny. People get thrown in the clink for overheard bomb jokes made to their spouses in airports lines. Compare that to a public speech by a national politician.

That being said, I happen to like Huckabee and he made an official apology very quickly. He's always seemed like a decent person to me, although I disagree with much of his agenda. In my mind it is "no harm, no foul". Of course, it didn't make him look very competent at add libbing.

As a person, not a politician.

I have many friends with whom I have sharp political disagreements. Some of those people are my best friends.

Personally, I can appreciate someone's decency and kindness even if I disagree with their views.

I would much rather have Mike Huckabee as my neighbor than Hillary Clinton. For my President, however? I'd pick Hillary over Huckabee every chance.

Remember this one, "The Bush Assasination" where the guy shoots bush in the stomach with a rifle, whatever happened to this movie, imagine the "yowling" from the "Left" if they made a movie like this about the "Messiah Prince"

I agree that that movie was despicable.

Meanwhile, the idiots who produced that never ran for national office, or were openly talked about being the VP candidate when they made that trash. Further, those idiots were not American citizens subject to American law.

So, basically you are comparing foreign nationals who are not public officials, to an American public official who intends to run for Vice-President.

Harry.....

That's about right. One of my best friends has similar views to Huck...except he's not rich or educated...just a great friggin guy.
