Time suggests invasion of Myanmar, you got to be kidding
Quote:
That's why it's time to consider a more serious option: invading Burma. Some observers, including former USAID director Andrew Natsios, have called on the US to unilaterally begin air drops to the Burmese people regardless of what the junta says. The Bush Administration has so far rejected the idea — "I can't imagine us going in without the permission of the Myanmar government," Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Thursday — but it's not without precedent: as Natsios pointed out to the Wall Street Journal, the US has facilitated the delivery of humanitarian aid without the host government's consent in places like Bosnia and Sudan.
Our country has truly become wacky if we continually suggest invasion while the walls crumble down around us.

Dropping food and medical supplies seems like a good idea, but anything along the lines of an invasion would be a horrific disaster, especially in the middle of all this suffering.

I, wrongly, supported the Iraq invasion. I have learned we can't make everything right in the world. Send some food in and let it work itself out. Not only can we not make everything right, even if we could we can't afford it.

What will Bush do if one of the humanitarian food drop planes gets shot down?
Take a wild guess.
Does Burma have any oil?
Can Haliburton make a few more quick bucks outta this?

Stay the F!!K away from there.
Not saying we did it the right way but the oil jokes are silly, until we find other places for energy we have to protect the flow of oil, it is a huge part of our national interest. Without it the country shuts down.

Burma's proven gas reserves were 19 trillion cubic feet at the end of 2006, according to BP PLC's World Review of Statistics. While that's only about 0.3 per cent of the world's total reserves, at current production rates and Thailand's contract price for gas, the deposits are worth almost $2 billion (U.S.) a year in sales over the next 40 years.
"It points to the potential that (Burma) has," said Kang Wu, a fellow at the University of Hawaii's East-West Center in Honolulu.
Altogether, nine foreign oil companies are involved in 16 onshore blocks exploring for oil, enhancing recovery from older fields, or trying to reactivate fields where production has been suspended, according to Total's website. A block is an area onshore or offshore in which an oil company is granted exploratory and discovery rights.
Offshore, nine companies – including Total, Petronas, Thailand's PTT Exploration & Production PLC, South Korea's Daewoo International Corp., Chinese state-run companies China National Offshore Oil Corp. and China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. – are exploring or developing 29 blocks, Total said.
Despite economic sanctions against Burma by the U.S. and the European Union, Total continues to operate the Yadana gas field, and Chevron Corp. has a 28 per cent stake through its takeover of Unocal. Existing investments were exempt from the investment ban.

I'd agree. I think we need to support the oppressed people in indirect ways through food drops or supplying weapons(afghanastan against soviets). but we should stay out directly.
we are spreading our money and resources too thin and it's showing.
