If the average family used 20 gallons a week in their car assuming the car gets 20-25 miles per gallon that is 400 - 500 miles per week driven which is above the national average... but that being the case at 18.7 cents of federal tax per gallon X 20 gallons of gas equates to $3.74 cents saving per week.
Multiplied by 4 weeks, average per month, and the monthly savings is only $14.96.
And that is if the oil companies don't jack up the price to the distributors along the way which we know they will do and then the increase is passed on to the consumer at the pump so the actual savings will be much less than the 18.7 cents per gallon.
Only a senile old fool like John McCain could some up with something so ignorant. But it is typical of a republican because they believe that the words "tax cut" resinates with voters. This time the American public is too smart to fall for this kind of ploy.
