Mass Casino News Flash
I just heard on WBZ news that over 60% of Massachusetts residents support 2 or more casino's in Massachusetts. Personally, I find that EXTREMELY hard to believe. I particularly find it difficult to fathom ANY casino in the town of Middleboro.
Has anyone ever tried to travel route 495 south towards Cape Cod from Rt 24 on any Friday from May to Labor day? There is absolutely NO WAY that section of 495 could handle the increase in traffic a casino would bring.
I challenge anyone on this board to explain to me how route 495 can handle a large casino in Middleboro. I'll be waiting patiently!
My guess is that fans of gambling really don't consider or care about the logistics, they just want a casino close to home. Being a Raynham resident who likes to travel to Cape Cod on summer weekends, my personal opinion is to take your casino & shove it...or better yet, build it in YOUR town!
I also consider casino's a haven for sickness. I recently travelled to Las Vegas for the first time on a business trip. My honest impression was, "what an embaressment for America!" Such an ugly mecca for greed & wastefulness...but I guess that is the American way.

Re: Mass Casino News Flash
Can you say "revenue stream"? That's how 495 will be able to take the additional traffic. The $$ outways the sufferage of the people. When you start talking hundreds of millions, to billions in revenue, you'd be surprised how quickly people are willing to sell their souls, and especially, the souls of others, in order to make it happen. What's another hour of traffic for local residents, when we can put more books in the classroom? More firefighters, police, etc. Haven't you heard the MassLottery ads on the radio? Go gamble people, cuz you put books in the desks.
Instead of trying to control spending, and limiting the size and reach of government, the pols are looking for new ways to pay for more. Sadly, all the new ways will only mean more waste.

That new revenue stream has effectively already been spent by Deval. No talk of using it to close up the budget deficit we already have, rather its more "a program for this, a program for that."

Re: Mass Casino News Flash
The Massachusetts Lottery is number one in the nation in revenue brought in to the state coffers.
Casinos would add to that. I believe that most people are gamblers by nature. Some more so than others, but most like a little shot at big bucks now and then.
It is like northern Mass on the NH border. Mass is losing tax revenue on liquor by people going across the state line to buy it there.
Same with gambling with Mass residents going to Foxwoods in Connecticut. All of the tax revenue that those states could be going to the state Of Mass and something good can come from it.
Just look at the good that gambling has done to those on the reservations Sure, maybe its not all equal but on most of the reservations that have casinos the life style of the members of the tribes overall has improved.
Why should Mass lose that potential revenue to Conn. or RI, or other states that have casino gambling?
Its like prostitution, people are gonna do it anyway so legalize it keep the working girls clean, and the state makes a percentage.
People will gamble.
In fact, one of the best ways to help our national debt etc. would be with a national lottery. A national lottery would easily wipe out our deficits and debt in a matter of a couple of years, or less.
And I just came up with a "Harry Boy Idea." Turn Fort Knox into our National Casino. I can see it now.... Harrah's Knox Resort.

What about the 1,000 cops and lower property taxes?

Some people just don't get it. Not with an old name, and certainly not with the new. The problem is SPENDING. You can try to find all the "revenue" streams imaginable, but if you don't spend efficiently, you're still going to go broke. Tell me, who do you think plays the lottery? Rich people, or poor? Also, why is it ok for the state to monolpolize an entire industry? I can't bet on a game, but I can give the state some cash for a RedSox scratch ticket!
My favorite though, has to be the fact that it's not "a" casino, but it's 2 or 3. Seriously, how stupid can some people be? Why not try to get one built first?

Re: Mass Casino News Flash
Hillary Clinton was asked her view on the subject of casino's in MA and she quickly responded with this: "Well, while over 60% of me is in favor of two or more casino's, the rest of me says there should be two or less. I'd like to add that I feel very strongly about this."

Re: Mass Casino News Flash
Why would someone even try to compare Vegas or even A.C. to a single run casino? Really whens the last time we read or seen hookers, gang bangers and drug dealers walking around out in front of Foxwoods or Mohegan? It's a shame the retarded sheltered life people of this state have turned them down for this long, Connecticut has been making a killing off the two casinos in their state and have had 0 issues due to them also. People can just as easily go to the local dairy mart and gamble away just as much but yet that is ok, at least at a casino you might have better odds then the 1 in a million chance they have turned the mass state lotto into!

With record cash flowing in, the government still can't break even, nevermind get in the black. When will people wake up? Spending, spending, spending...
