Very strange. Makes me wonder what kind of scumbags these Cherokees are. I know white people treated them like crap 150 years ago, but this is nothing but racist bull*****, IMO. Not just this, but the whole way they determine who is eligible for "citizenship" in their "tribe". I'm getting close to the point where I'm about done with the Indian claims to their status as special people in the US. Their preferencial treatment in the casino business is just wierd to me. I'm pretty sure that if a Cherokee wishes, he can leave the "tribe", move to Massachusetts and become a citizen just by renting an apartment there and getting a phone number, right?

Why don't black people have a claim to land in the US? They were here before the Italians and Polish were. Why don't native people in Hawaii have the right to ban white, black or spanish people from citizenship there? I'll tell you why: All people are the same and should have the same rights under the law as everyone else!

I don't get it and I don't think I'm liking the Cherokee very much today. I need someone to explain the logic to me about why they should be able to pull this obviously racist crap on the Freedmen.

I never imagined indians having slaves while they were booted all over the country. I'm reminded of the rich guy from The Ten Commandments who got the blood put over his door without him knowing nothing.

whatever the Native Americans do is ok with me...they (we) are the only true Americans in this country! I still find it amusing that we celebrate Columbus Day. You know, the guy who discovered America...the only problem is that it was already discovered by us, the real Americans.

I think i will go "discover" Colorado.

Well, of course, this is all being discussed outside of what happened to the Natives. The year is 2011. This is racist no matter how you cut it. Sorry for the plight of my Native brothers in the past and today, but it's been a very long time for them to be getting a pass on this, don't you think?

I'm still very disturbed and torn by this. I never thought I would feel this way about the Cherokee or any other "tribe". It has just occurred to me that the whole legality of the status of a group of people based solely on genetic purity or portions thereof is ignorant, particularly when that group claims they are just as human as anyone else. What does that mean in this context? Am I an American? Was my great, great, great (etc) grandfather Irish or from Sweden or Denmark? Maybe he was from Portugal? Who knows? Who cares?

I'm really confused.
