Default Green boondoggle

The law of unintended cnsequences at work.

Quote:
From the same gang that brought you MTBE with its drinking-water contamination, ethanol with its air and water pollution and higher energy and food prices, and all the laws and regulations that have spawned record energy prices comes the compact fluorescent light bulb.

Greens loves CFLs because they use less energy than incandescent bulbs and last for years. OK, so they cause eye strain, and most can't be used with dimmer switches and the ones that can flicker annoyingly, and they've been known to short out and give off toxic fumes, and they're potential fire hazards, and they contain mercury. But overall, the greens say, CFLs are good soldiers in the war against global warming. And you don't want to be for global warming, do you?

Anyway, come 2012, because Congress rushed in where wise men would never go, federal law says: no more incandescent bulbs, so CFLs soon will be homeowners' only real lighting choice.

Well, three recent studies confirm CFLs pose a greater threat to public health than once thought. Each bulb has enough mercury, a neurotoxin linked to kidney and brain damage (babies, children and pregnant women are at the highest risk) to foul 6,000 gallons of drinking water beyond safe levels. The more than 300 million CFLs sold in America last year alone represent "an enormous amount of mercury that's going to enter the waste stream at present with no preparation for it," said professor Ellen Silbergeld of Johns Hopkins University. Some states already are treating spent CFLs as hazardous waste and prohibit people from throwing CFLs in the trash — talk about a law few if anyone will follow. And though the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency continues to claim CFLs are good for Mother Earth, it also has a painstaking, 11-step process for their safe disposal.

So we will be putting tons of mercury into the enviroment to solve a non existent problem (Man Made Global Warming). Way to go congress!!!!

These are the people the left want to put in charge of health care....

Sounds EXACTLY like the anti-nuclear energy people 30 years ago: prevent any more nuclear energy, close down all existing reactors. Then, watch the skies turn yellow, then brown, then black from all the burning oil that is needed to provide the electrical energy demanded by today's world!!

Sick, selfish, short-sighted, self-righteous bum-swabs.

Azzhats of the first order. Send 'em all to Siberia for 20 years; they've earned their vacation from the real world.

Well I will ping my own thread since not many saw it yesterday when posted. This is a prime example of why 'good intentions' often produce bad policy.

If the left wings new heart throb "Paddle Ears" Obooma becomes the next president all this "green *****" and "climate change" stuff will be put on the shelf, the Loons won't talk about it because they will be afraid the new "KING" might somehow be criticized.

When Bush leaves it will stop snowing----------

Are you drunk? The anti-nuke people were only concerned for the environment and the safety of people. They had no other agenda. They were wrong...I was wrong, but there were nothing but the best of intentions on our part. "sick, selfish azzholes" and "rumpswabs" don't apply. Short-sighted and self-righteous, maybe.

Siberia for 20 years? Aren't you one of those concerned about "hyperbole"?
