Has there ever been a Republican that has actually downsized the government? No. Why? because as usual, they are full of shyt when it comes to the issues they campaign on. How about you downsize the war on drugs, deficit spending, the FCC, faith-based initiatives etc.? Oh that's right "smaller government" only applies to social programs which help people other than your own special interests.
So you're finally learning something. This is why you can't ever sign your soul to a political party. None of them ever do what they're supposed to. What's worse is that when you start chopping up the pie, and handing out slices, those who didn't want a piece start to look for one. This is why I've maintained that bankruptcy is the only option. Not until the well runs dry will people know that there isn't anything left to drink. People think that our money problem started yesterday, or close to two terms ago. Baaaaaaa..... It reminds me of a great uncle I had who busted his arse everyday and handed his money to his wife. He was a very simple guy who worked as a laborer. When it came time to retire he thought he had a nice nest egg to live on, only to find out that his wife had burnt through it all. Some for some nieces, more for some nephews, etc. Everyone dipped into his cash, except for himself. Needless to say, he didn't know there was a problem until there wasn't any money left.

Well under the rules you can't actually cut the size of gov. WHY?
The biggest items the entitlements are on autopilot. So the yearly increases are built in. IIRC when Gingrich became the majority leader after the pubbie congress was put in place he did pass a budget that froze discretonary spending and actually cut programs. Clinton vetoed the budget and shut the gov down, the MS killed Gingrich and the pubbies folded.

We just have to try to evaluate them the best we can."
This goes right back to GW's idiocy over "cutting taxes", "giving $600 tax rebates", "cutting the value of the dollar so what we pay back doesn't hurt as much", the IDIOTIC "2003 Farm Subsidy Program" ,etc.
Ridiculous.
Give a man a fish - he eats for a day. Teach him to fish - he eats for a lifetime.
Instead of handing out $$ (tax cuts, rebates, etc.) if he had merely been a careful steward of our country and INVESTED in our transportation infrastructure, alternative energy, science (although he doesn't believe in science), etc. instead of throwing the $$ around in tax cuts, $600 rebates and $3 trillion to the Iraqi mess, we'd be better off.
Hey, Shmess-shmess: I just wanted to tell you that I got a real pretty glossy "newsletter" from Congressperson Paul Hodes (D-NH) today. He claims credit for the stimulus package. I think you should call his office and call him a liar, because you know for a fact it was ALL GWB's stimulus package.

Oh yeah, the Congress has really been leading GWB around by the nose. He does evrything they tell him to do.
Please tell me one (1) instance during the 7+ years of the Bush Presidency when Congress forced him to do or sign anything he didn't want to sign.

One of the falacies (sp.) that people have, and the one that the right is constantly bringing up is that the wealthy PAY more taxes than anyone else, and this is very far from the truth.
What they have, because of their ultra high income, is a very, very high, tax BILL.
But, once they are finished with their loopholes, their deductions, and anything else they can find to lie about, they have, virtually, very little that they actually pay in taxes, and in many cases, if not most, they pay nothing at all.
The average wage earner does not have the luxury of those loopholes, or deductions, so they pay through the nose, on a percentage to dollars earned.
The Democrat tax plans call for ending the lucrative tax breaks for the wealthy and passing them on to the middle class.
And that is what the Repubs are calling a tax increase.
do you ahve evidence of this NEM? can you say... show Alex Rodriguez's taxes paid or Bill Gates. or it must be impossible to figure out since they have it invested in corporation
