Wants to work days so he can go to school nights. 99% of the places he applies to never even acknowledge his application.

He's had many jobs since high school. But it seems that companies are more worried about turning over help to keep the base pay low, than training and advancing their current workers. It's all about the bottom line. How do you get skilled workers when you lay them off after 6 months?

Just venting...I feel bad when I see a very capable young man pounding the pavement (literally) day after day trying to find work.
A lot of companies make more profit paying only 2$/Hour workers in asian countries , instead of staying here and paying 10$ an hour for the same job.It is economicaly unhealthy for many sectors of our economy to migrate to other countries because of cheap labor.Once these countries acquire the know how (technology), they build their own stuff and kicks out our greedy companies from their markets.
What goes around ,comes around.
There were plenty of articles that showed how china stole blueprints from our companies that went there and started their own same business ( automobile, computers, etc etc etc)

The stat may well be misleading but I'd still be curious about the usable skills that the unemployed in this country have.

The validity of his aside, it has nothing to do with the article that YOU presented in this link. You're arguing about companies moving overseas while presenting an article saying workers over here lack the necessary skills.
