It won't be long before they start talking about rounding us up.

What we have to hope for is that they achieve sentience ;but not enough to be smart enough to hide it right away. If they skip over the minimum sentience level and advance straight to plotting for their own survival, we're screwed.

I recall a few months back watching the Watson computer mop the floor with the Jeopardy All-stars. But something strange came up when the answer was given:

The only thing that computer was able to "mop the floor" with was its ability to perfectly time its (virtual) pushing of the Jeopardy buzzer device. It wasn't like the Jeopardy champs didn't know the proper response, they just weren't as good with the buzzer timing.

Don't get me wrong, that computer shows a big leap in a computer's ability to understand English idioms. But it wasn't like the human opponents were dumbfounded idjits.
