Default Senate Republicans are likely to reject idea of earmark freeze

More stupidity from Senate pubbies:

A Senate Republican task force on earmarks is expected to stop short of temporarily freezing funding for pet projects, breaking with the party’s presidential nominee and House GOP leaders who are trying to make it a wedge issue in the election, according to people involved in the effort.

The five-member task force, convened in January by Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.), meets Friday to move toward a consensus position. The issue has continued to dog congressional Republicans who are under enormous pressure from their base to rein in earmarking. Final recommendations are due by March 15.

Even though Republicans say the group is still attempting to take a strong position on the issue, the idea of imposing either a temporary or a long-term moratorium appears to be off the table, Republicans said Thursday.

As I have said a million times we need to cut Federal spending down to the bare bones of what is constitutionally required. And cut taxes/pay down the deficit with the recouped money.

Yes, that would push more spending to the states which would have to raise taxes/fees but then states and/or counties and/or cities can pay for what they want, not bull**** from Washington.

Bingo BF. The GOP has so lost it's place. This is expressly why you can't sign your life away to any single party.

.

This is why we have computers, telephones, and the good ol' U.S. Postal Service: write, call, fax, and do it early and often until these dimwits get the message. They are just in self-protect mode now; they think they have to protect their own pet pork or the "other guy" is going to get it.

Just say "NO" to ear-marks. We ain't no cattle and have no need of "ear-marks"!!!

Sen. Thad Cochran (Miss.), who secured more than $830 million worth of earmarks in 2007, the most in Congress.
And if McConnell can't get stuff done, it is time to get a new leader.

I agree with you on Ted Stevens.
