Should drug tests be required of welfare recipients?
Why don't people that receive welfare or social security disability check
have to pass drug tests?
To work a federal job, you are required to take a drug test.
Why is it out of the question to ask someone to take a test to receive a
free check, while others take the test to work for a check.
An old friend who grew up in my neighborhood is a herion addict.
I have received updates on his status from family members.
The states welfare program pays for his apartment and he gets $1,600 a month tax free from
social security disabilty because he is a heroin addict. He is also on mass health which pays for
his medicatoin and his multiple detox centers per year.
I don't mind helping people, but I expect them to try to help themself. To be able to continue drug use and receive a check is rewarding bad
behavior.

They've been shelling money out for years to the drunks, anybody that offers them a job is assualting them, if you offer a wino a job and get caught you might wind up in jail.

Welcome to the walfare state. This is the land of opportunity. You get the opportunity to go to work so others don't. What's truly sad is that you've got people who worked their whole life, and get a measely $400-800 a month from SS, while some loser crack, heroin adict gets $1,600, a free apartment, and Mass Health. What a country.

The unemployment rate is around 4%, which is basically the % of the population which is unemployable.
ALL GOVERNMENT WELFARE SHOULD BE ABOLISHED.
Non-governmental entitites would easily fill the void for the truely needy.
Welfare and all the other programs (housing, food stamps, etc.) are desgined to keep people in poverty and beholden to the government for thier needs.

I agree.
All government welfare should be abolished. Foreign aid, 80% of military spending (especially foreign bases), corporate subsidies, ...all of it!

I don't think you could, or should eliminate it all. There are people out there who simply cannot provide for themselves through no fault of their own. There are people who are legitimately disabled, or maybe have a debilitating disease for example, that need help.
