Default Another racist senator criticizes Obama's leadership abilities

"Mr. President, I rise today to talk about America's debt problem. The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure.

Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that the buck stops here. Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America's debt limit."
- Sen. Barack Obama, 2006

"I think that it’s important to understand the vantage point of a senator versus the vantage point of a ... president. When you’re a senator, traditionally what’s happened is, this is always a lousy vote. Nobody likes to be tagged as having increased the debt limit for the United States by a trillion dollars. ... As president, you start realizing: 'You know what? We -- we can’t play around with this stuff. This is the full faith in credit of the United States.' And so that was just a example of a new senator, you know, making what is a political vote as opposed to doing what was important for the country. And I’m the first one to acknowledge it."

Pretty gutless backtracking, seems to me. But I agree that he is just way too much of a novice to hold the most powerful office in the world. Too bad people like you didn't realize that 3 years ago.

Obama sucks at explaining things. I can't listen to him anymore. He contradicts himself left and right. He changes his mind whenever the Owners tell him to. He's no different than the last ten we've had.

The alternative speaks:

The idea seems to be that if the House GOP refuses to raise the debt ceiling, a default crisis or gradual government shutdown will ensue and the public will turn en masse against Barack Obama.... Then Democrats would have no choice but to pass a balanced-budget amendment and reform entitlements, and the tea party hobbits could return to Middle-earth having defeated Mordor.

"This is the kind of crack political thinking that turned Sharron Angle and Christine O'Donnell into GOP Senate nominees.

The reality is the debt limit will be raised one way or the other.... If conservatives defeat the [GOP] plan, they will not only undermine their House majority, they will go far to reelecting Mr. Obama and making entitlements that much harder to reform."

Anyone who read the news would know that Obama has proposed $4 trillion in deficit reduction (by backing the bipartisan Gang of Six proposal) through budget cuts primarily and closing some tax loopholes. If Bush had made a similar proposal, perhaps Obama would not have said what he said.

Well it's too bad President Obama doesn't support the same initiatives that Senator Obama did. Otherwise this country would not be in the current crisis that he has steered us headfirst into at breakneck speed.

No impartial analysis of the Obama administration could ever conclude anything other than the fact that it has been a complete disaster.

I do believe McLame was reading that directly from a newspaper article. I don't think McLame knows what the Lord of the Rings is.

As for the two Barack Obama's, the one circa 2006, then the one circa 2011, is anyone surprised? This is where I tend to give credit to the freshman in congress who are refusing to sign a worthless agreement designed only to publically save face for the politcal establishment. They will not cede their principles for a deal that isn't worth the paper it's written on. I personally prefer we default, than sign some toothless plan that will do nothing to alter the current course being travelled. We won't default, as I believe some sort of deal will be made, but I want the principled to play chicken until the establishment pulls the wheel and caves in to real reform.
