to 'consultants' just to BEGIN to put Obamacare in place.

Lots of pork to be fought for by the companies involved.

GAO-11-797R, Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act: Contracts Awarded and Consultants Retained by Federal Departments and Agencies to Assist in Implementing the Act

The tip of the iceberg that is helping to sink the economy.

So you think an expenditure of >700mm is helping sink the economy? Is that the position you're taking?

Not as much as it'll cost us to simply allow health care costs to continue to skyrocket.

Compared to what?? how much does it normally to begin such a massive undertaking..

How much did it cost to start the big pharma plan under George Bush??

How much did it cost to start Homeland Security??

Alone it sounds like a lot, but need to compare it to something..

So does that mean you feel that Obamacare is going to keep costs from doing just that, skyrocketing?

We know the albatross won't save any money at all it will accelerate the rise in health care cost and ultimately lead to rationing by the government. If we had moved towards something like Medical Savings accounts we could have curbed health care cost and improved quality/ However the pols are interested in power and not solutions.

Well it's less about being sanguine about that possibility as it is about recognizing that it's the only proposition for addressing health care costs currently on the books.

But ultimately, it largely depends on the IPAB and whether or not it's implemented.

I don't think Obamacare, in and of itself, is going to solve the problem. That's probably going to require a single payer system. That is, if we ever decide we want to stop paying twice as much for health care per capita for generally average outcomes.
