It gets down to the fact that conservatives have generally stood in the way of black equality. Right or wrong, blacks, like other minorities, associate equality and justice with the Democratic Party, which since the 1930s has led the drive to integrate the military, provide better education to the poor, pass civil rights legislation, introduce programs like affirmative action to address the wrongs of the past, passed laws that outlaw discrimination (which the Tea Party wants to bring back at least for private businesses), and forced the integration of numerous industries. While the Democratic Plan has not worked as well as one would hope, the Republicans have never had a plan, and as many of the posts in this forum sow, there is a lot of focus by Republicans on negative behaviors based on skin color, suggesting that racism is still alive and well in Republican circles.

The middle class has been disappearing amonst all races, not only amongst blacks.. the unemployment rates amongst blacks are the highest in the US, coupled with the highest rates of incarceration...

While there are inroads, there are as many obstacles...

To say that this phenonemon is unique to Obama is another right wing myth...

You play the media card over and over again, of course you do not see it if you only ingest right wing sites.. it is there if you want to find it.

Harry's only rival in that department is the OP when it comes to a fixation on black people. I suppose this thread is an attempt by the OP to apparently soften his reputation of black-bashing towards a kinder, gentler stance of "concern" and "sympathy" for their plight. Of course, he can't get through it without a dig on black people in the end. What a shock.

"Materialism of socialism"...too funny...as if capitalism isn't solely based on materialism by its nature. Blacks = socialists...but they can't seem to help themselves. It's evolutionary.

I'm disappearing out of the middle class myself--I'm less than two years from owning my own plush but not ostentatious home.

And that reminds me, Darryls, did you read recently that black men have a longer life span in jail than out of it? Wild stuff.

Jail would be very bad for me since my butt's so cute. Not that I'd know, only girls and gals have told me so.

A major factor is differential judicial representation, not many poor folks can afford private attorneys and PD's tend to be more realistic. The "war on drugs is another factor".. blacks tend to be given longer sentences, and for many doiong time is a rite of passage..

Poverty has a whole bunch to do with it, but you do not want to hear it..
