I mentioned this somewhere in another thread, but here goes.

Have you folks checked out the Great Depression-era unemployment rates for blacks? Obamanomics is getting a free pass from the liberal media.

Not having much of a work history is a good way of making it onto the poverty rolls.

BTW, Titus, I'll stick with Pappa Haydn. I don't like rap music, esp. when racial nasty words are used. How can black america expect whites to refrain when they themselves don't?

It's amazing that even when it comes to something like the n-word, you want to somehow pin it on blacks rather than whites. Seriously, think about that for a minute.

Also, ask yourself why you care so much that you and other whites can't say the word with impunity. I have a lot of friends who are Jewish. They make plenty of Jewish jokes among themselves, and I've never felt it was unfair that they could use certain words and make certain comments that might be unacceptable coming from me. I've also never tried to blame other people's anti-Semitism and hatred-laden slurs on my friends' or other Jews' use of these words or mention of these stereotypes -- because those aren't the reason those other people are bigots.

Certainly not like the fellas in the music video. I used to be a liberal don't forget.

I literally would cry when whites used that term. I don't feel the need to use it, but wonder why people wearing baseball caps the wrong way, with apparently too much time on their hands, are using it.

We don't take our self-esteem from membership in a group, even one that has an astounding record of success--one third of Nobel Prize winners are Jewish for example--like blacks do. So the former can be more relaxed at making fun at themselves.

A Jewish Bill Cosby making what I take to be eminently valid criticisms would be given a much more respective hearing than the real one has.

The brilliant Spike Lee is under a handicap that the Jewish Woody Allen isn't. And I happen to think Mr. Lee is smarter than Mr. Allen.

OK, so you do manage to refrain from using that word, even though many young blacks use it themselves.

Your ability to refrain shows that whites' usage of the term isn't dependent on blacks'.

Could there be some whites who would legitimately use the term not realizing it was a problem? Possibly, in rare instances. But let's not kid ourselves. After all, you, harry and a number of other folks here like to distinguish yourselves as looking at the "real world" -- most whites who use the word aren't doing so because blacks do. They use it because they're racists and they don't like black folks. It's that simple.

Blacks make fun of themselves all the time. The fact that many (but far from all) blacks are ok with calling one another that term shows a level of relaxation about that term, doesn't it?

But even beyond that, I don't think your distinction is valid. My point was that Jews can say things about one another that they'd likely find offensive if it came from others. (Granted, none of it's black and white -- so to speak. I'm sure I could have used certain terms and made certain jokes andnot offended, as they're friends. Others would have been dicy, others would have been unacceptable. Same goes for blacks, I personally just have far fewer black friends.) But Jews saying those things doesn't absolve anti-Semites for saying similar things and certainly isn't the cause of anti-Semites continuing to use certain slurs.

I'm more disciplined than most white people. More under control. And I don't watch the crap on TV. I don't watch sports except for football.

So please don't use me as a reference point. I'm a weird nerd. You should see my glasses. Like that guy with the fly-away hair in the movie with Jim Carrey about the unspotted, spotless mind in the sunshine, whatever.

Blacks as a general rule aren't very disciplined. Check out what Bill Cosby has said. One piece of evidence is the extra couple of hours they watch of TV over that of whites.

And Martin Luther King talked about burning the midnight oil to outwork whites.

It's never been easier for a black man to outwork a white man in the last two hundred years.

If I had been black with my mind I'd have been recruited by Harvard and Yale. No doubt. But I'd be lambasted for "acting white" listening to classical music and reading Shakespeare.
