I am so happy to see that this [misleading] statement [about Obama's mother arguing with health insurers as she was battling cancer] is finally getting some exposure in the media. To this should be added his lie about his auto insurance experience (remember this? : Why Obama Hates Insurance Companies | Power Line).
This man is nothing but lies. He and his toadies in the Congress and media have "fundamentally changed" our nation's health-care delivery system, is in the process of rationing our health care, and reduced our standard of living based on lies this jerk told about his history and his past.
The article from salon.com claims it wasn't a lie per se, but I don't agree. It ends, although, on a point I wholly endorse:

he 2012 presidential race is going to be an entirely different critter than 2008. Back then, reporting on President Obama’s personal history was soft-focus Sunday feature fare; there was no particularly interest in digging below the surface to check the veracity of any given personal anecdote. With Obama appearing less and less a transformational leader and more and more a standard-issue politician, he’s inevitably going to face a higher level of scrutiny. The Era of Too Good To Check has come to an end.
Obama, like his ideological predecessor Jimmy Carter, has all the hallmarks of a one-termer. Jimmy James Earl Obama Hussein!
Lefties will be apoplectic.

the election will turn on 2 things: (i) has the economy continued to deteriorate, or even stagnate, and (ii) do the pubbies nominate somebody like Romney or somebody like Bachmann
If the economy continues to suck and the pubbies run Romney, Obama loses. If the economy improves or the pubbies run Bachmann, Obama wins.

Unless I'm misunderstanding something, this is even more pathetic examples of desperation of the right than was the birth certificate fiasco that blew up so neatly in their faces. The article itself, despite the way it's written, seems to support Obama's claim that his mother was worried right up until the end.
This is from the article:
"He told the American Medical Association in 2009 that he remembered 'watching . . . as she fought cancer in her final days, spending time worrying whether her insurer would claim her illness was a pre-existing condition.'
The portrait of President Obama as a regular guy, forced like so many regular Americans to stand helplessly by while a suffering loved one uses their ebbing strength to fight with heartless, profit-obsessed medical insurance companies was immensely appealing, particularly to reporters.
...
"To defray the cost, Dunham put in a claim with for a disability insurance policy she had through her employers. Correspondence given to Scott by friends of Dunham show that it was her disability carrier, Cigna, that denied the claim on the basis of a pre-existing condition, after reviewers found a note in an old medical file that suggested she might have uterine cancer. Dunham argued that testing at the time had found no sign of the disease. She later requested a review, directing them to her 'son and attorney, Barack Obama,' but it’s not clear if it was completed before her death in November 1995 at the age of 52."

I hope Bachman doesn't have a chance at being nominated mainly because she's an embarassment. If she got nominated, she may as well ask Sarah Palin to be her running mate....
Re: One of Obama's Campaign Stump Speeches Turns Out to Be a Lie
I guess you didn't read the article, Patters:
Quote:
When Ann Dunham was diagnosed with uterine and ovarian cancer in January 1995, her medical insurance carrier covered her treatment without argument, even covering her medical travel expenses from Indonesia to Hawaii, and later from Hawaii to New York, where she sought treatment at Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. She was left to pay the deductibles and those items not covered by her policy, totalling a few hundred dollars a month in out-of-pocket expense.

I don't think anyone out there even remembers anything about the birth certificate.
Meanwhile, the economy, unemployment, gas prices, housing market, inflation, value of the dollar and national debt continues to blow up in Obama's face. I'd say those issues are a bit more important that that stupid birth certificate nonsense, wouldn't you?

while I agree with you that all of those are far more pressing issues (given that the birth certificate isn't one), I think you're giving far too much credit to the birthers.
Maybe some who post here will chime in...

Then you oviously have short term memory loss or are not paying attention.. Orly Taitz is alive and well, Joe Farah continues to rake in millions for his fraud fund.... many of the extreme righties continue to call him the "usurper" as was evidenced on this board in the past two weeks. Rush Limbaugh continually spreads this myth and his "dittoheads" just follow along. Several posters refer to his ineligibility on this board regularly.. remember the social security fiasco.
Everyone agrees that there are more important things, however the Birth Certificate is usually the most important things for some.
