One rebuttal, penned by four attorneys with the firm Crowell & Moring, which represents the National Mining Association, accused the study's authors of using cherry-picked and misleading data. "The study failed to account for consanquinity [sic], one of the most prominent sources of birth defects," the attorneys' statement said. It then went on to advertise the firm's services to coal companies looking to "counter unfounded claims of injury or disease" from potential lawsuits sparked by the study.

Seems like most energy co's abuse people and the environment. I just wish some genius could make coal and oil obsolete...let us hope someday soon.

I once worked at a coal strip mine in Gillette Wyoming owned by Kerr-McGee ( the co. that killed Karen-Ann Quinlan). I can attest that there is no way to avoid breathing the dust.

Thankfull, I only worked there one summer while in college and I wasn't a "Miner"....I helped build coal silo's that fill the long trains full of coal.

Talk about going back in time....Google Gillette, WY sometime!
