Senate GOP mulls new debt strategy - David Rogers and Scott Wong - POLITICO.com

In effect lawmakers would be surrendering the very power of approval that the GOP has used to force the debt crisis now. But by taking the disapproval route, Republicans can shift the onus more onto the White House and Democrats since a two-thirds majority will be needed to stop any increase that President Barack Obama requests.

Translation: We, the GOP, only want to give voter the illusion that we are aginst the debt.

Result: The base for the GOP is dumb enough to buy this.

Of course the GOP doesn't care about the debt. Their penultimate objective is undermining Obama. Even The Economist called their strategy "economically illiterate and disgracefully cynical."

The pubbies should just walk away, the revenues are still coming into the Treasury, enough to cover Military spending, Debt Service, SS & Medicare. Let Obama and Reid decide what else to fund shut the rest off.

That's surprising given how supportive they usually are of the GOP...

It's hardly a bastion of liberalism, particularly on economic issues.

I think you may be confused by the fact that conservatives in Britain would be Blue Dog Democrats in the United States.

It appears the Orange Man agrees with McConnell:

The Speaker shares the Leader's frustration. Republicans are unified in our commitment to ensuring that the debt limit is not used as leverage to saddle small businesses with increased taxes that destroy jobs.
Apparently they've fired up the ole' Delorean and gone back to before the Republicans took the debt ceiling vote hostage in order to extort spending cuts from Obama. Disgracefully cynical seems more and more apt.

Is anyone ready to admit that the debt ceiling itself is a farce? I mean if you just vote to raise it every time you hit it, is that a "ceiling"?

The pubbies folding is very predictable, apparently they missed the last election and forget why they were handed the House.

They'll fold because their corporate masters are going to reign them in before they're allowed to tank the economy.
