In the absence of talks between Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton and GOP legislative leaders, the shutdown was rippling into the lives of people like Sonya Mills, a 39-year-old mother of eight facing the loss of about $3,600 a month in state child care subsidies.
Until the government closure, Mills had been focused on recovering from a May 22 tornado that displaced her from a rented home in Minneapolis. Now she's adding a new problem to her list.
So the poor woman has to wait for her new government apartment until the government reopens, and she even lost day care for 6 of the kiddies, at least there is still the food stamps and other Federal goodies. I suppose it ould be too much to ask her to stay off her back or even gt married?

We just have to try to evaluate them the best we can."

Cracks in U.S. solvency continue to spread from the federal level to the state and municipal level, and all angry partisans can do is slap a partisan explanation on it all.
Must just be the "socialist's" fault, and the poor people who support him while waiting for a "handout."
Meanwhile, it's state services that keep these same starving people from climbing over your gated community, taking your gun and bible, and beating you over the head with them both.
You wanted less government, you're about to get it. And all that comes with it.

Once again, you assume much and know little.
If you read further down the story, Ms. Mills has a job, Ms. Mills has been, at the very least, helping to support herself and her children - and was, quite possibly, entirely self-sufficient until tragedy struck. She rented a home and lost the home in a tornado. No where in the article does it say that the home she lost was a "government apartment." People who lose their homes in floods or tornados or hurricanes get state aide as well as federal aid most times....all people, even well-off people. It's called disaster relief.
And what kind of hatred makes you say things like, "stay off her back," or "even get married," when you know absolutely nothing about her situation? Maybe there's a father to those 8 kids - maybe there are several fathers - in fact, I'm SURE there is at least one father - why don't you say, "Why don't they track down the SOB father(s) of those children and make him pay support?"
Maybe she's a widow. Maybe she's divorced. Maybe a lot of things - one thing for sure - she apparently doesn't believe in abortion, does she? Where are your props for that? Why aren't you holding her up as an example of a woman who does the right thing and doesn't abort her numerous children?
You consistantly want it both ways, PF13, and it's painful obvious you don't understand either one.
A little more about Sonia Mills - who actually sounds like a woman with guts to me.
It’s been almost four weeks since a deadly tornado hit north Minneapolis, leaving hundreds displaced. Many are still without a home.
For Sonya Mills and her six children, it’s been a living nightmare.
“I sometimes feel like I’m in another world,” said Mills. “I walk outside and realize I’m living in a community center.”
The tornado partially ripped off the roof of Mills’ home. On top of that, a water pipe busted and flooded her house and a gas line ruptured, forcing her to evacuate.
“I began calling friends and family,” said Mills. “I’m a family of seven, so it was pretty hard to find somebody to commit to our family.”
The night of the tornado, Mills and her six kids stayed at the Northeast Minneapolis Armory with a number of others. She’s now been at North Commons for two weeks.
Mills took 30 days off work to get situated and found a place to stay, but it won’t be ready until July 1.
“Ninety-five percent of the people coming in here are trying to subject the families to the Drake Hotel, People Serving People, places for homeless people,” said Mills. “I was almost forced to go there and I said I am not going to subject my kids to that type of environment.”

Come on, mrs, don't you know that women who have sex are sluts, and single mothers are irresponsible sluts?
funny, some righties invoke terms like misogyny and racism any time people are remotely critical about female or black pubbies, yet their own words betray their true personal attitudes.
Are you trying to insinuate that Ventura is to blame for the fiscal problems of today? Please say you are. Should go well for you.
Anyhow, wow... Is the partisan king here taking a beating in this thread.
No I am not saying that at all ... just using him as an example of voters electing saviors and then wondering what happened. State voters need to pay more attention to the people they elect to lead their house and senate - just as in DC these are the people who are responsible for the mess the country and the states are in.
Not to say anyone deserves things
but they elected this clown and now they wonder what happened???
I don't know anything about who started the budget crisis in Minnesota - but didn't Pawlenty have two full terms to straighten out anything Jesse might have done?
