I look at the people we have here in Rhode Island ... a house and senate loaded with lawyers - yes - we are also broke and broken. We are responsible because we do not vote as carefully as we should. We are easily swayed with words of hope. pawlenty for President ... now that would be a joke wouldn't it.
Rhode Island is so f..ing broke it is unbelievable, filled with special interests.. read where they are upping the age of when kids can quit school to age 18.. who is going to enforce that and what are the penalties?? Kids who quit usually do so for a reason, they do not do well in school. Pretty confident that the school systems do not want them.

New laws and more absurdity, more special interest.. led by the chief azzclown "Linc the Dink".. they are so far out of touch with the realities of the needs of this state they should all be voted out...

Yet they all pat themselves on the back for a job well done.. what a pig circus.

Scientistif-types would be the worst as they typically have no common sense or people skills...especially the "extremely schientific" types.

What skills do you believe a scientist would bring to politics?

Scientists have no common sense? What in Santa's name are you talking about? Are you anti-intellectual? I need to know more.

Most scientists don't rely upon "common-sense", they rely upon the scientific method. The last thing we need is a bunch of people creating formula's that prove "X, Y or Z" and then base policy upon such idiocy.

I am not anti-intellectual, but honestly Wistah, I wouldn't want our capital to be filled with "Intellectuals". I want intelligent and PRACTICAL people who "Get the job done". Not a bunch of people who like to theorize and over-complicate social issues.

If you spoke with a psychologist or personality profiler, I'd bet a lot of $$ that they'd conclude scientists would not make good politicians.

This isn't the the day of Aristotle where it does society good to sit and around and theorize "about the meaning of it all...."

That is what "think-tanks" are for you know...

Aristotle was a philosopher.

This country's politics have been run by men you describe as having "common sense". That's part of the mythology that businessmen and billionaires must naturally possess such traits. These types will do anything to keep their jobs and profit from them. They will say anything to get votes and set their friends up. They have no interest in the long-term improvement of society and even if they did, they wouldn't have the first idea how to go about it.

Man...we're disagreeing on a lot this morning. We gotta get this done soon because I'm on vaca in three hours!

Ah, but would you rather be middle-class today or 40 years ago?

Okay aside from the interweb. And the cars that work. But other than that...

Yeah, I agree with you -- but I was just saying it doesn't have to be zero sum and hasn't always been zero sum.

(and even today... longer lives (I assume), better technologies in many ways, less expensive travel, more entertainment options, etc.)
