Maybe you're right. Irrational fear more often than not is the result of ignorance. Banishment based on being Jewish is based primarily on hate.

Of course there are legal and international considerations(hiding behind IMO) involved but Delta is a US Airline that is providing flights to a US Allie. Jewish groups including the World Jewish Congress and the American Jewish Committee are justifiably angry. We all should be.

Possibly, but I'm skeptical our criticism had anything to do with it. I think it has more to do with economics and technology.

Yes, there is.

For starters, there is the question of whether sharia reflects true Islam.

Second, sharia is a problem because it is the government adopting religious rules. A religion having the same rules is a different matter. By way of analogy, I think it is completely indefensible for US / state laws to discrminate against homosexuals when it comes to marriage. But I don't care if the Catholic church wants to do the same.

Third, what would criticizing / pressuring a religion look like, and what would you hope to achieve from it? I only see downside -- considerable downside.

Right, and I'm saying the 2 are the same. I don't see any reason to single out sharia. Do you?

Angry isn't the word....OUTRAGED is more accurate. But I'm absolutely certain Chico feels the same way...he just doesn't wanna say it.

Well, that's damnation with faint praise if I ever heard it.

If the anger is against Saudi Arabia, I agree.

If it is against Delta, I don't.

This is a visa issue, from what I can tell. Again, what would happen if delta permitted a passenger on who had no visa?

(and don't other nations do the same? don't we do the same? I'm under the impression that Israel, for ex, is often very discriminating re visas for Arabs. I'm also under the impression that Americanscan run into difficulties if they have stamps from Cuba and some other nations in their passports. I could be wrong on both counts, though.)

No, I'm not outraged.

Why would I not say what I actually think?

It doesn't matter why China changed. You said why don't we criticize China and I told you we always have. That should have ended that point...and you were wrong.

There is no question of whether sharia reflects true Islam because it is Islam. Now some Muslims may not agree with it, but it reflects Islam the religion as much as the 10 Commandments reflect Christianity.

Delta is coping out. Playing I'm only following orders s lame. They know why the Visas aren't being issued and they could have lodged a protest. They are as much about the visas vs. Jews as the south was over states rights vs. slaves. Are the Jews identified in the story justified in their anger with Delta? I think they are.

Never been to the Middle East but if I had to pick a favorite it would have to be Qater with those beautiful hotels and beaches. Seriously how can one have a favorite Middle East country unless you have traveled to a few of them and I don't mean in a C-130.
