It really doesn't matter if he confesses. Whites and blacks had diametrically different views of the case at the time. And because of double jeopardy he's free as a bird.
He lost a civil case, but isn't paying back any time soon.
Most blacks I suspect still view him as innocent, as did the jury at the time.
Until we care more for justice and less about grievances and placating aggrieved "minorities"--I'm not sure that word makes much sense now that white babies are now in the minority--our courts aren't what they should be.
I sometimes think judges should determine guilt or not, and juries determine awards. But when so many people get off who are in the productive sector of the population, the pool of applicants for juries are skewed to the, ahem, unproductive.
