So if I'm bumped into on the street, a criminal act has occurred...
uh huh
Sorry, I thought you were smart enough to know that there has to be a deliberate intent in what we are discussing here. I didn't realize I had to spell that part out in such excrutiating detail.
If someone accidentally bumps you then no, it is not an assault. If someone is up in your face and deliberately bumps you (in a manner that is clear that such contact is most certainly not welcome), then yes that is an assault.

Legally speaking, the mere act of putting your hand on someone when they don't want you to is assault.

Can you cite the criminal law supporting your assertion that "the mere act of putting your hand on someone when they don't want you to is assault"? My understanding is that there is also an aspect of harm involved, which is why, for example, a guy simply putting his hand on a woman's shoulder in a bar wouldn't be assault, though it may be questionable behavior -- and why throwing glitter isn't a clearcut case of criminal assault.
(and that is also why illegalcontact's point about what fear re. what is in the substance being thrown could be relevant, I would think)
By the way, let the record show that the moonbats in here are doing nothing but arguing over the definition of "assault" and not a single one of them has come up with an answer that I asked for in my very first post starting this thread.
Democrats tend to be more favorable than Republicans when it comes to gay rights. Thus, it stands to reason that they're much less likely to be targeted by gay activists. In fact, I can't think of a single example of a Democratic pol getting "glittered"; even if they had, I would still expect the pool of people who care to consist of you, and only you.
Yeah, Chico, we all get it. You're the biggest, baddest there is. Now have that last word you're so desperate to have...
You like calling names and hurling insults from your computer. You're calling me the tough guy. Let's see if you're willing to act on your big words when you're not behind the keyboard.
My offer stands. I'm sure you know how to use the PM function. It's in your court.

Sure thing Chickie. You're right and everyone else is wrong as always.

Yes, I agree. Democrats tend to be much more intolerant of different opinions, as well as much more angry at anyone who disagrees. Republicans are far more respectful of others' viewpoints and willing to live and let live.

the minutia isn't even the point here....
forget the principlpes for a moment..... can you define at what point an unwanted action becomes assault?
