Default More Good News If It's True

A top al-Qaeda commander and possible replacement for Osama bin Laden was killed in an American drone-fired missile strike close to the Afghan border, the militant group he heads and a Pakistani intelligence official said Saturday.

Ilyas Kashmiri's death is another blow to al-Qaeda just over a month after bin Laden was killed by U.S. commandos in a northwest Pakistani army town. Described by U.S. officials as al-Qaeda's military operations chief in Pakistan, he was one of five most-wanted militant leaders in the country, accused in a string of bloody attacks, including the 2008 Mumbai massacre.

His death was not confirmed publicly by the United States or Pakistani officials. Verifying who has been killed in the drone strikes is difficult. Initial reports have turned out to be wrong in the past, or are never formally denied or confirmed by authorities here or in the United States.

Hope the report is correct.

While I guess it is "good", I do wonder how significant it is. Even before Osama's death I've wondered how much of a threat Al-Queda has been over the last decade. Of course we don't know how many attacks have been thwarted but it just seems that over the five or six years we have heard little from them.

I had found that list on wikipedia as well, but after looking at those over the last six years or so, the attempts seemed ineffectual for the most part. Plastic explosives in underwear that don't go off, a lone gun man at a recruitment station, the attacks against the Danish embassy for publishing cartoons, and attacks against Algiers. These just don't seem to be the actions of a powerful mastermind terrorist organization. It may be a matter of growing complacent on my part or its a sign of an organization that is no longer as big of a threat as it once was. Its almost as if we are taunting them at this point with stories like these: MI6 attacks al-Qaeda in 'Operation Cupcake' - Telegraph

Maybe we can rehabilitate them and then give them all a free drivers license, God bless them.

How many times has #2 been killed???

Reminds me of those silly playing cards that they had during the invasion of Iraq. Saddam was the ace of spades.. etc.

I don't care if they never do an evil thing again, 9-11 was enough for me to be happy every time we beat them like a red-headed stepchild.

The Red Headed Step Children Coalition, are deeply offended by these obviously bigoted comments.. and demand a retraction.

Yanno, come to think of it.....my youngest son truly is a red-headed stepchild.

They get a bad rap for some reason.

What's up with that?
