"She wasn't invited. We heard yesterday she came out with a press release she was coming to Rolling Thunder," Ted Shpak, national legislative director of Rolling Thunder, told "Andrea Mitchell Reports." Shpak is one of three members of Rolling Thunder's current leadership who says he had no idea Palin was coming until it was posted on her website.
I guess it's a good thing she quit halfway through her term. Otherwise she'd probably have to go to some local Alaskan observance that it would cost Fox all sorts of money to go out and cover.

I wondered about that.....Most times people who plan rallies, especially such well-organized and traditional rallies such as Rolling Thunder, invite their speakers well ahead of time.
It takes some kind of narcissism to just assume you can show up at the last minute and everyone will gladly jetison their year-long plans and shuffle their invited speakers in order to accomodate you.
Colborne spoke with me on the phone in the middle of an all-night car ride to Washington DC, and explained that the last-minute RSVP didn’t get communicated through the echelons of Rolling Thunder. Everyone is either in transit or already in DC, and internal communication broke down as often happens before a major event. Shpak (and Colborne) were taken by surprise by Palin’s announcement. Shpak does have the authority to speak for the organization, Colborne says, but he had no idea that Palin was invited by DiPaolo, and Shpak worried that Palin’s arrival might be a “big distraction” from the issues on which Rolling Thunder wants people to focus.

"How does (Miami-Ohio offensive lineman Brandon) Brooks not get invited to the combine? How did Vollmer not get invited to the combine? I don't know. We can't really worry about that. We just have to try to evaluate them the best we can."
Perhaps Ms Mitchell should have talked to more than one person at Rolling Thunder:....
Seems like a miscommunication within the organization probably won't matter to the haters though.
Actually, the first link (Mitchell's byline) mentioned DePaulo.
Why does your first link say Palin RSVP'd "too soon"? I think they meant too late.
The real question, for anybody who cares about whether she was invited, appears to be whether DiPaolo, as a former Board member, was in a position to invite her. But as the first spokesman (Shpak?) stated, she didn't need any invitation.

That doesn't matter.

Because accuracy in reporting doesn't matter? And even if it did, etiquette matters even less. I mean, who cares if someone doesn't RSVP in the time frame specified? It's on a par with knowing how low to bow to a foreign dignitary or where to touch the queen or when to stand up and make a toast at a state dinner. It has no bearing on how much a political figure knows or doesn't know and no Tea Party member or Republican ever concerns himself with a breach of etiquette.
Not there but @CBSNews producer on ground tells me #RollingThunder crowd pretty anti-media, very protective of @SarahPalinUSA

If that's the case, don't expect much coverage of it.
That's true...if the crowd is, as reported, "pretty anti-media," as well as "protective of her," then no one's going to get close enough to report anything, are they?
