Ryan unveils his plan. Not a total solution a solid first step in fixing our economy. If this prevents our National Debt from going >100% of GDP (as Obama plan dictates) the economy will have a chance to grow.

Paul Ryan: The GOP Path to Prosperity - WSJ.com

Quote:
A study just released by the Heritage Center for Data Analysis projects that The Path to Prosperity will help create nearly one million new private-sector jobs next year, bring the unemployment rate down to 4% by 2015, and result in 2.5 million additional private-sector jobs in the last year of the decade. It spurs economic growth, with $1.5 trillion in additional real GDP over the decade. According to Heritage's analysis, it would result in $1.1 trillion in higher wages and an average of $1,000 in additional family income each year.

Quote:
But Ryan and the Republicans deserve a lot of credit for at least acknowledging the huge fiscal mess the United States is in and proposing specific long-term remedies for dealing with it.
For the last several years, the United States has acted as though it can have everything forever: All the services and benefits everyone wants while also cutting taxes. The country's $1.6 trillion ANNUAL deficit, combined with debt approaching 100% of GDP (which doesn't even factor in future healthcare and Social Security liabilities) reveal that this is a pipe dream

Editorial: Ryan's Budget Plan Gets The Job Done - Investors.com

Quote:
One thing that Ryan does slash is the deficit — by $4.4 trillion over 10 years. That's $4.4 trillion less for our children and grandchildren to repay. More importantly, debt peaks at a projected 74.5% of GDP in 2013, then recedes to 67.5% by 2021 — vs. 87.4% under Obama's budget.

This is accomplished mainly by reforming entitlement and welfare spending in ways that lower costs while giving people more choices.

Ryan starts by overturning ObamaCare, saving hundreds of billions of dollars in higher taxes. Then, for the first time ever, he proposes serious reforms for Medicare, the greatest danger to America's fiscal health.

What Is Conservatism and What Is Wrong with It?

Quote:
Q: What is conservati*sm?
A: Conservati*sm is the domination of society by an aristocrac*y.

Q: What is wrong with conservati*sm?
A: Conservati*sm is incompatib*le with democracy, prosperity*, and civilizati*on in general. It is a destructiv*e system of inequality and prejudice that is founded on deception and has no place in the modern world.

The most central feature of conservati*sm is deference: a psychologi*cally internaliz*ed attitude on the part of the common people that the aristocrac*y are better people than they are.

The true goal of conservati*sm is to establish an aristocrac*y, which is a social and psychologi*cal condition of inequality*. Economic inequality and regressive taxation, while certainly welcomed by the aristocrac*y, are best understood as a means to their actual goal, which is simply to be aristocrat*s.
The health insurance companies are all having multiple orgasms.. now they will "set up" some unsuspecting souls, aka the tea party, tell them some lies, sugarcoat the ryan plan, pour massive amounts into these unsuspecting nitwits and make a lot of noise...

The reality is that old folks vote a lot and this could be the gift wrapped package that Obama was waiting for.. if you think that private insurers has anyone's best interest in mind except their bottom line, then you need serious medication..

I agree Pelosi and Reid never introduced a budget last year. Obama has never proposed anything to deal with the structural debt the country faces. So they waited for someone to make the first move so they could demagogue, lie and have a campaign issue.

This proposal will form the basis for the debate in the next election. Leadership vs cowardice.

BTW for those interested a short course on the debt crisis:

All this proposal does is continue the american plutocracy, and create more wealth for the private insurance companies.. the divide will continue to increase.

How will this reconcile with the dreaded health care act? At first glance it appears to be somewhat dependent upon it??

Looking forward to reading about this in the journal

At first glance, disappointing that it doesn't appear to do much about military spending -- but maybe that was in order to curry favor with his fellow pubbies who won't take kindly to a lot of spending cuts and who would be particularly upset over military spending

One good thing about this, regardless of the details, is that it should further focus discussions on decreasing government spending, which is a step toward decreasing overnment's overall size and reach.

I happen to like Ryan, but lately he seems to have made a deal with the Owners for the promise of the Big Job down the road. I don't like the idea of handing more profits to insurance companies. Not good. Senior votors still think the Republican Party represents "family values" and the Goode Olde Days of gays in the closet, Jesus and big band music. Wait til they find out that they're waterboys for their Owners.

Listening to a discussion of this on the radio today, there is no mention of scaling back the DOD, its contractors and prerequisite fraud.

A typical Republican proposal puts the onus of deficit reduction on the backs of those who our economy has failed to help under the unsubstantiated belief that trickle down economics works. Reagan created record deficits in order to pump enough money into our economy to create the illusion that the tax cuts were beneficial. His trickle down economics did not work. In fact, the separation between the rich and the middle class/poor only increased under his proposals.

If we want to fix the deficit we need to raise taxes on the wealthy, get out of Afghanistan, and punish companies that abuse our markets by relocating to other nations. Ryan's proposal shows he has heartfelt love for money, but is stone cold for the needs of the needy.

Personally, I think this survival of the fittest mentality is designed to protect white privilege as the country continues to advance towards whites being a minority.
