Default The shape of things to come?

Jan Brewer wants smokers and the obese to pay a premium if they are recipients of Medicaid. Many of us thought this would eventually be coming, but it is a bit of surprise to see it start with a right-wing governor.

Does this portend something on a larger scale once Obamacare gets into full swing?

What about stupid people (like politicians) who want to reproduce? Shouldn't they need to take out a high-priced permit? And what about motorcycle riders and skiers? How about those who have very stressful jobs like firefighters and roofers? Just fat people?

Slippery slope. It won't happen.

Poor Arizona...stuck with a politically retarded governor who can't see into the future any distance whatsoever and uses the "Let's throw some ***** at the wall and see what sticks" method of governing. They might want to elect a grownup next time.

I think that's the most fertile demo in America right now. All the "smart" people are avoiding having kids to "save the planet".

You know that a lot of people just don't want to have a lot of kids, right?

(and maybe "smart" people are in fact less likely to have kids, but because they understand the costs and responsibility involved -- but that's just one possible cause and effect out there, out of many)

If the motivations are different than I speculate does that change the outcome?

From the article:

Quote:
Childless adults who are obese or suffer from a chronic condition and who fail to work with their doctor to meet specific goals would be charged $50 annually. The $50 annual fee also would apply to all childless adult smokers.

"If you're not going to manage those things and take some personal responsibility, and in turn that costs the state more money, then you need to have some skin in the game," said Monica Coury, assistant director of Arizona's Medicaid program.
$50 a year? That isn't going to stop anyone from buying the Double QP with Cheese value meal every month or buying a carton of smokes.

Enforcement will be an issue, and last thing you want to do is tie up state employees(court systems) with more busy work.

What would happen if you do not pay the fine??

For a group of people who want less government and less government intervention.. this makes no sense.

Jan will create a task force, funded by taxpayers, to track down those people who didn't pay the $50. It all makes sense right????
