Re: Wisc.GOP Congressman whines about how he only makes 174K...
Well according to the link at website reporting the story, Duffy is one of the 'poorest' congresspersons.
Quote:
That may or may not be true, but one thing is certain -- Duffy is one of the poorest members of Congress. OpenSecrets.org, which tracks the money in Congress, ranks Duffy as near the bottom among House members when it comes to his personal net worth.
The same article indicates that Duffy sleeps at various locations and isn't maintaining a residence in DC. He also said he was open to reducing his salary if it was tied to a more general cut in government salaries.
He did say it was hard to make ends meet (paying for all the kids + 2 houses in his home district. He did say he wasn't living high on the hog. This seems to be accurate based on his finances.

Perhaps we should raise the salary of Congresspeople then? Imagine how hard it must be for the middle class union workers who are being targeted by the right wing? I guess the tea party activists motto should be 'Misery loves company.'

sounds like he may need a little fiscal discipline...

Actually the dems put the raises for congressional salaries on auto pilot some time ago. He isn't asking for more if you read his comments, he is saying he isn't living "high on the hog", seems like a reasonable comment.

I wonder if you'd consider the same comment reasonable if it were made by a public union member with 2 homes...

The guy was asked a question, he answered the question. Didn't say he should get more said he was OK with getting less if it was tied to a general wage cut for gov employees.
What is the issue? That he said he wasn't rich? Well open secrets has verified that.

Ah, that's right.....auto pay raises took effect in 1989, 22 years ago.
Then those 12 years that Republicans held the majority in congress, 95-97, 97-99, 99-01, 03-05, 05-07, and 07-09 when each party held 49 seats they voted to end the auto pay raise, right?

A bipartisan act of cowardice hurray.
