Maybe it was like this before the '90's but the Country has drawn battle lines by state/party affiliation and that isn't good at all. When people like Newt Gingrich are talking family values and looking at running for President it is a sad time.

The saddest thing for me is that the Dems don't plan on supporting anyone but Obama next year. As much as I like Obama I know there are Democrats out there that could at least challenge him in the primaries. FU 2-Party system!
I wonder if Hillary will run again. I also heard Feingold was considering a run. I think for Dems supporting Obama in 2012 is the best strategy, picking someone else I think would guarantee the Republican getting elected (unless its Palin!).

Agreed on the Congress right now, although I understand Southern Republicans following through on the things that got them elected, all this social BS. I am glad that among house Republicans there are those that are serious about tacking economic issues, like Paul Ryan, and that some Democrats are taking it seriously as well, like Joe Manchin.

2012 is going to be a mess if both parties bases stick to their guns. Not looking forward to that at all.

Where is Bill Weld when you need him?

He's too smart to jump back into this crap.

I think the advantage a more moderate Republican will have in 2012 as opposed to other years is the ability to hammer on the economy/debt/foreign policy (if they have the credentials). If they're convincing enough on those topics the social conservatives may (emphasis on MAY) turn to them as a solution for the big ticket problems.

If not I'd like to suggest that Huckabee and Palin form the "Backwoods Party" and let's be done with it.

Gainzo who would you like to see run? Just interested.

Hilary would maybe be a replacement for Biden when his time is up. Feingold will run in 2016 and have the same impact as his bud McCain did in 2000. Russ Feingold is populist, from the Mid-West, got cross over appeal with other groups and might be a "maverick".

Romney is smarter than anyone on this forum.

Probably true, but he's also just not a natural politician. He's too stiff, makes bad jokes, and has changed his stripes too many times to be taken seriously by voters. That said I'd still vote for him.

Wow!
Talk about damnation by faint praise!

I remember Weld very well. Mass did very well under him, but I don't know how much of that was due to him...not much, I'm guessing. I do remember slapping him on the shoulder at a Dead show and said "Hiya, Bill!" to which he responded, "You gonna bogart that or what?"

Romney is the biggest flip flopper I have ever seen. Worse then anything Kerry flip flop on.
