Re: Japan devastated
From early reports the Tsunami Warnings helped, but not sure what anyone can do against these tremendous forces of nature..

I don't think I've ever heard or read about an earthquake that powerful in my lifetime. 8.9 is almost unfathomable.
I feel really sad for all the children of the world that have to live through all the frightening happenings in the world the past few years. They are all growing up in fear, perhaps more than any other generation due to our advanced media.
Recessions
Foreclosures
Wars
Uprisings
Unemployment
September 11, 2001
Haiti
Indonesia tsunami
They must see the fear & stress their parents carry with them daily and that's sad. But maybe each generation is the same and it's just my perception that things seem worse than ever.

Re: Japan devastated
It's Bush's fault, he's been practicing since Katrina and he's getting better at it.

If you've ever seen a storm surge/tsunami, it is truly amazing to see the damage they can do. I was in Gulfport and Biloxi,MS after Katrina the wall of water took down cinder block buildings like they were Styrofoam and bent steel frames.

I can't even imagine how scary it must be with the aftershocks approaching 6.0 on the Richter scale.

About 5 months after Katrina, drove from Mobile to NOLA and was amazed at the swath of destruction.. it is indescribable.

Re: Japan devastated
Well, I was wrong .... for a day, anyway... The Dow is up slightly today, while oil fell a bit. Presumably because Japan's demand won't be very healthy for a while.
But, for a country teetering on insolvency, this seems devastating for their longer term recovery.

Re: Japan devastated
Why would a bunch of dummies live on a fault line?
anyway, I'm off to head home to San Fran via the bay bridge in about 45 minutes....
In all seriousness.....an 8.9 is downright evil. Something like that out in Cali, LA to San Fran would pretty much destroy millions of lives. Mrs Diver is 1/2 Japanese, and I have some coworkers in Tokyo right now, everyone is okay, but that doesnt stop this from sucking. Thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Japan.
The video of the tsunami was pure hell....
