Your comment speaks volumes. I believe there are many people who have been co-opted by an orchestrated campaign designed to appeal to prejudices and bitterness. What is going on in Japan is horrific, and you really ought to reflect about why it doesn't move you.
Of course it moves me, I prayed for them, I will say it again "nothing is forever" we humans will someday bring about The End Of The World, nuclear is the begining of the end, the smarter man becomes the dumber things he does.

The world would be much better off if "uneducated people" were allowed to run it.

They talk about Gamma rays and then provide no figures about the amount of gamma rays at Fukushima, They talk about soil contamination with out specifying the half life of Iodine for example as opposed to Cesium, and how much of each type of radiation is present at Fukushima.

from NEI yestrday:

Quote:
Dose rates at the site boundary continued to range from 1 to 3 millirem per hour.
BTW most of the radioactive products are in the form of Radioactive Iodine which has a half life of 8 days. Cesium is more serious and has a much longer half life.

This is sort of comforting, although the products (at least as of last week, when the media got distracted by Libya,) seem to keep going out there. So 8 days after that stops, half the radioactive iodine released on that day will be gone, followed by a total of 3/4 by 8 more days later, etc.

So let's see, if I'm getting a year's dose in 1 day which decreases to 6 months' dose at 8 days, that only gives me what, an average of 3/4 over 8 days, or six years' dose in the first 8 days, then 3 years' in the next 8, than a year and a half in the next 8, then 9 months in the next 8... or only about 11 years' radiation in a little more than a month, rather than the 32 years' worth we would expect if the radioactive iodine is going out into the environment continually.

Which it is, last I heard.

And that's at 30+ miles.

But seriously, yes, that is significant, and it is somewhat "comforting." It's a matter of degrees, and a matter of still hoping for the best in containing all the products here. will look to see what's been released - in terms of news - in the last few days.

It is amusing watching as the resident Grover Norvquists here perpetually attempt to justify selfishness and advocate continued consumption .... while the world melts-down and begs for a systemic change in social consciousness, before the obligatory full-blown trade war takes hold and does it for them.

The world's 3rd largest economy teeters on the brink, and with it, the vital global tech sector in this digital age is gasping for breath.

And yet, all that unabashed conservatives can rationalize is that "nothing to see here" mantra, pointing to the "DOW iz healthies!! Keep Shoppingz!"

So now, their favorite, heavily subsidized energy industry is on life support (with very good reason), and they continue to parrot the only sentiment they know how: "It's not that bad... your warnings weren't really prescient... our way is best... shut up, be grateful.... we keep you safe and warm at night."

Rinse... then repeat.

It's best you let this thread die, nuke advocate. It's getting worse with each passing day in Japan. Blaming the media for everything doesn't change that reality.

Asking for factual information, something you and Titus aren't familiar with.

So Titus how are you leading the way on changing our social consciousness and going off the grid? Wind power for your internet access? ditching the car and using a bike?

Can't wait for the updates.

Was going from a best-case scenario, 13, using your radioactive iodine half-life, the radiation reading from your chart with the little squares, and making the case that IF this was indeed ALL radioactive iodine, once it's contained, you are still looking at a significantly elevated dose, at a significant distance from the plant.

So the links would be to your post 2 above mine, and your post earlier in the thread. Dunno how to do the post-number link.

But would love to see if anyone has more recent readings. This has slipped off the national radar screen and hence the Patsfans equivalent.

Dude, I've kinda been dominating you with factual information. Worse, your links have about a 33% relevancy rate.

Far more than you, of that I have zero doubt. But, don't let that stop you from creating new straw men. It's what you do.
