I think this is dangerous ... the way to go is still at the minimum a background check and completion of a course and test. Letting any moron out there have a gun is crazy and dangerous. If you're a law abiding person getting a permit in Mass or RI is a pain but it is just about automatic that you get it ... I have it in both RI and Mass.

And you wear a black cowboy hat in both states too!

The funny thing about open carry is that very few people will actually do it, unless they're really into the idea of highlighting their 2nd amendment rights and such. For the most part, open carrying is inviting a visit from the police. Police are pretty much obligated to respond to "man with a gun" calls, and whenever someone sees a guy walking around with a gun on his hip, that call will be made.
Virginia has been an open carry state for a long time, and there isn't generally an issue there. In my 25+ years living there, I probably saw less than a half-dozen people open carrying, and most of those were gun store employees.
Maybe in "gun right starved" New England, it might be different, but I don't think so.

------------------ “On a day when they could have had impact players David Terrell or Koren Robinson..they took Georgia defensive tackle Richard Seymour, who had 1 sacks last season in the pass-happy SEC and is too tall to play tackle at 6-6 and too slow to play defensive end. This genius move was followed by trading out of a spot where they could have gotten the last decent receiver in Robert Ferguson and settled for tackle Matt Light, who will not help any time soon.”

For the longest time I refused to go the carry route. Then a buddy of mine convinced me that most people won't notice but the bad guys will notice. If there's anything a bad guy is afraid of it's a gun ... they like easy prey.
So after a few years of wearing one I had 5-6 comments about it ... all of them from bad guy type people ... my friend was right.

It's very true. They do love easy prey, and I do think they take notice. In my years of carrying, I've never had to use it, a fact for which I'm very grateful.
