Stupidest post thus far. Read your history again and pay particular attention to all the various countries that have been CONQUERED. America is just one example of a conquered land.

Australia is an example of an entire continent that was conquered. Read up on the Romans and let us know if they too were "terrorists".

Conquest does NOT equal Terrorism...never has and never will.

Am I glad American was conquered? ABSOLUTELY!

Do I carry any guilt that America was conquered?

None what-so-ever.

what's the difference, and how do you justify one but not the other?

(Merely pointing out that somethjing has repeatedly happened throughout history doesn't make it OK, does it?)

If we see the Pew and Zogby polls of the muslim world these sorts of views are mainstream.
That was sort of the point of the original post. This mosque is so "extremist", it has the support of the UK government (sharia courts).

We can only imagine the outrage on the left if a country were to allow ecclesiastical courts in lieu of civil courts.

I never said conquering was ok. But it certainly was a part of world culture prior to the 1900's. And the manner in which America was conquered must be judged in the same manner in which Rome conquered many nations.

You can't compare something that used to happen to something that is ocurring in the present day.

But you & I both know that the world agrees that terrorism is unacceptable. Let's have a world-wide vote on it! Then let's ask if conquering nations and taking them over is acceptable too.

Conquering countries and taking them over isn't a modern day phenominon. So you can't compare them.

I think some folks in Iraq and Afghanistan might disagree with you...

I don't think this is a matter of "judging" anybody, just pointing out that perspective matters. It's easy to say terrorism is bad. And of course we think it, because we would be the victim of terrorist attacks and not traditional military attacks.

But if you were an Iraqi whose home and family were destoyed by American troops, maybe you wouldn't view it as terrorism if you in turn attacked Americans -- maybe you'd view it as the only form of retribution you could get.

I have no problem with us fighting the wars we decide are necessary. But I do think that as a nation there's a huge inconsistency between how dismissive we are of "collateral damage," or how we view American troops as noble and brave, yet how quick we are to assert that "terrorists" must be evil.

(Now let the attacks start...)
