Newt does know a lot about marriage. Isn't he on his 3rd? I have to give the guy some props as even though his personal life has been a disaster he stills runs on the "Family values" platform and his followers eat it up like candy. Only in America!
Gingrich will not be nominated, he is right that Obama's obligation is to enforce the law. not decide WHICH laws should be enforced and defended.
He brings a good point here.
Quote:
In talking about the president's action, in fact, he raised Sarah Palin's name and suggested that she would be under fire if she ever decided not to enforce a major social law. "Imagine that Governor Palin had become president. Imagine that she had announced that Roe v. Wade in her view was unconstitutional and therefore the United States government would no longer protect anyone's right to have an abortion because she personally had decided it should be changed. The news media would have gone crazy. The New York Times would have demanded her impeachment," said Gingrich.
He is exactly right in his assessment here. Obama of course said he supported the DOMA during his last campaign.

"How does (Miami-Ohio offensive lineman Brandon) Brooks not get invited to the combine? How did Vollmer not get invited to the combine? I don't know. We can't really worry about that. We just have to try to evaluate them the best we can."
This was the other half of the shoe to drop in the other thread. He overreached his authority in a dangerous and unprecidented way. A POTUS, as Chief Law Enforcer of the country, unilaterally choosing which laws he will or will not enforce? Bad. Very Very Bad.
Like I said in the other thread. He's not the first to overreach in a dangerous manner (W, anyone?) but I hope he will be the last, and we wake up and vote in a constitutionally bound POTUS.

Isnt this the same a-hole that impeached a president over a blow job?
loser
Newt always was the jealous type.
But you are not adressing the issue here of how dangerous a precident this really is. For two threads now.
I agreed DOMA is unconstitutional, and any attempt at controlling, regulating, or codifying a religious institution like marraige is establishment of religion. Its akin to saying "girls cannot be baptized".
But you wont address this atrocious behavior by the POTUS. And how dangerous it can be.
There are remedies in the Federal court system. Its their job. To determine constitutionality of such laws. Let them do their job and you do yours.

Is this true can they start impeachment over this,
They can start impeachment hearings on anything they want, Harry. Whether they can win or not is another story. From what I understand, and I may be understanding it wrong, Obama did not order DOMA struck down or anything radical, he just said that the government is not going to defend it any longer each time it hits the courts.

If you're truly worried about it, I can only sugget that you stay out of parking lots when Newt is in town.

re. Gingrich's Palin/Roe v Wade analogy, one critical distinction b/t the 2 issues (not talking about the legal precedent) is that in one instance the government would be stripping people's rights while in the other it's expanding them -- but people like Newt don't care about individual rights, so the fact that this is lost on him isn't surprising

Ah, but he and every evangelicon would tell you they are expanding the rights of the unborn. It was a good analogy and hits both sides of sensitive social issues close to home. Not that I agree with DOMA. I dont.
The whole point of the analogy was to illustrate the precedent.
