Three teenagers were arrested for the burglary, according to the Daily Herald, and a 16-year-old involved with the incident reportedly told officers he "didn't want to leave any witnesses," so he killed the fish.
The boys, ages 15, 16 and 17, allegedly targeted the home because it had been evacuated following a Jan. 19 fire.
Police called the goldfish killing "disturbing," and the 16-year-old faces cruelty to animals charges in addition to a residential burglary charge. He and his two accomplices will be tried in juvenile court.
Hmmm... now what's more propostrous. The fact that these kids killed the poor little fishes, or that the gubmit would actually charge someone with a crime for doing so?

Well, the goldfish on American Dad can talk, as could all the fish in Finding Nemo, so they were just covering all their bases. I just hope they didn't try and torture the location of the family safe out of him before they killed him. "He's still not talking, bring in the cat..."

I don't think charging them for killing family pets -- even fish -- is preposterous at all. But looking at this another way, it could serve as a reasonable excuse for punishing sheer stupidity.
