Default Veterans more likely to be homeless

Veterans more likely to be homeless, study says - USATODAY.com

Quote:
About 16% of homeless adults in a one-night survey in January 2009 were veterans, though vets make up only 10% of the adult population.

More than 75,000 veterans were living on the streets or in a temporary shelter that night. In that year, 136,334 veterans spent at least one night in a homeless shelter — a count that did not include homeless veterans living on the streets.
They can die for us bravely and we're dropping the ball when they return -(we are cowards)this should not be.

its because the government does not care...the same people who put a pay freeze on civilian GS workers, but did not freeze their own pay. The same people who did not grant the standard 3% raise to the military (that covers the cost of inflation), but still got their raise. Terrible. I dont care if you are Republican, Demacrat, or whatever else, this is just wrong.

Agreed, and the problem goes much deeper than pay, especially for combat veterans.

This genius move was followed by trading out of a spot where they could have gotten the last decent receiver in Robert Ferguson and settled for tackle Matt Light, who will not help any time soon.”

Yes, much deeper. Many people don't like to acknowledge it, but the psychological impact is much more common and can be much more devastating than most people realize.

Politics aside, the impact of our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is going to be horrific for many vets. (We've already started seeing this.)

The easy answer and least complicated is to stop going to war.. continually.

I have friends who wander the streets from the Viet Nam Fiasco, and there is little anyone can do for them.. not for the lack of effort, but due to the lack of resources overall and dealing with complex, damaged minds.

Everytime we start another senseless war, we as a country need to discuss the legacy costs of these forays into foreign countries.. here is a prediction in 30-40 years we will be talking about how our veterans benefits will not be sustainable, we have sent a lot of young men and women to war and their long term benefits will be very expensive..

I wonder how many Americans voted for this Clown Obama really believing that he would "end the wars" how silent the war protesters of the Bush Years have become, we never hear that word that was so popular among the Democrats during the Bush years, remember it, the word was "Gitmo"

The Homeless veterans problem is all the fault of those Grinning F-cking Scumbags we elect to run our country.

Remember Egypt "Riots Get Results" maybe it's time.

What do veterans expect from the government? The same government that throws them into illegal and immoral wars against people who have done them no wrong to be killed, dismembered, and psychologically destroyed continues to disrespect their honor when they come home. What a disgraceful gang of pigs we have in charge of our military. Same goes for Congress which allows this to happen. Same goes for Obama. Shame on all of them. Congressmen should be forced to volunteer at a vet shelter or VA rehab hospital before they are sworn in. Their children should also be made to serve in combat units.

I was opposed to George Bush's war in Iraq. Please, give me one reason why it was beneficial to make an unprovoked attack on Iraq.
