Do you really think how people choose to eat is government's "highest duty"?

Well, if you believe the government's highest duty is to protect its citizens, then yes.

If you truly believe that, then there are litterally no bounds to what the government can do to "protect" you. Nothing would be off limits.

Eh, just playing devil's advocate. I'm generally sympathetic to government paternalism when it comes to nutrition in this country, because clearly people are unable to make these choices on their own volition.

protect them from themselves?

Not only do I not think that's government's highest duty, I don't think it's government's duty at all.

I think teaching nutrition in schools is something I've advocated doing. Controlling what people eat, or using the government as a tool to do so, is something I completely oppose. Unless of course, we're talking the use of EBT cards, or Food Stamps, and restricting what can be purchased with them. Maybe there is one area where government regulation would be supportable.

Wow. The words of fascism, spoken by none other than JackBauer. Can't say I'm surprised.
