yeah, lots of death threats on this board...

And are you really in a position to condemn vitriol or hypocrisy? I'm pretty sure I've never seen you speak out here against any of that when leveled toward the left.

Nope ........ Be a good and honest politician who always puts the needs of Americans at the top of their agenda is the best security of all.

Palin talks lots of crap .... it is what it is ... I don't feel bad for her.

But I am amused at the hypocrisy and how 2 different stories have been attached to promote a political agenda. There are more posts about Paling than there are about the 5 people killed. Ask who the 5 people killed were and i bet nobody knows all 5 names.

Killed:

Christina-Taylor Green
Dorothy "Dot" Morris
John Roll
Phyllis Schneck
Dorwin Stoddard
Gabriel "Gabe" Zimmerman

That's 6 ... but nobody was paying attention to 6 ... they still think it's 5.

Sarah palin ... not the shooter, not injured, not involved but she is the major story.

Very interesting ...

HD?
Patters?

Darryl?
Chico?

Death threats are bad - regardless of who is receiving them. I hope Sarah's unidentified aide gets a response from both the private security they are contacting and the US government, as well. (I did not, btw, see where the threats had been attributed to anyone in particular, however. Only that the term "blood libel" seemed to have set it off....which makes me wonder how you know it's a "leftie" and not a Zionist of some sort., but if you say "leftie" ok, I guess. You must have some knowledge that the cited article doesn't convey to the rest of us.)

I've never advocated violence against anyone and I am certainly going to be ashamed if it turns out that it's some run-of-the-mill. perfectly normal and sane leftist who's death threatening Sarah Palin or any other conservative politician and I promise to come down hard on whoever it is who has done so once they are identified.

Of course, much like many of you have pointed out already in various threads throughout the last year or two, since it's only lone fanatics. psychopaths and crazies who make death threats or respond to political rethoric with violent acts, the "left" as a whole is not responsible for the acts of a madman and no card-carrying Democrat, and certainly no one here, will have any reason to share in the blame or take any personal responsibility.

Unless, of course, you feel that political rethoric actually does convince other people to make death threats or commit violent acts.

But that would negate everything you've argued all week, wouldn't it?

What a conundrum.

Death threats vs politicians ... seems like my entire life that has been going on ... it's not a new story at all Mrs. PF. and it certainly is not going to change any time soon. i don't think rhetoric is a factor one way or another.

Do you have any studies that have compared rhetoric's effect on political shootings?

Show me some hardcore numbers and I might be convinced to think about it.

Sheesh ... the numbers pretty are what one would expect ... and yet these threads say it's one way.

Homicides by mentally ill strangers get a lot of attention, but they're rare. A 2009 study published in Schizophrenia Bulletin looked at stranger homicides in Australia, Finland, the Netherlands and Canada and found that there is one case of mentally ill stranger homicide per every 14.3 million people each year.

"Certainly people who fit the pattern of having relatively low levels of social skills, often times being more withdrawn, are more likely to respond to extremist language on radio, television and that sort of thing," Paul said. "If you look at the history of cult development, that's very often where they get their recruits."

That's good reason to tone it down, Paul said. Still, there hasn't been any systematic research on whether rhetoric pushes people on the edge of sanity off the cliff. The phenomenon is so rare that it would be difficult to get good data, researchers say
That means it's not a factor Mrs. PF ... it's so rare that it's rare.

Now if Americans were only so angry about re-electing pork barrel loving politicians.

Oh ... BTW ... Loughner disliked watching the news or political radio.

You're right....there aren't any hardcore studies, but there is a really good, well-thought out and researched article here NationalJournal.com - In Hate?s Wake - Thursday, January 13, 2011 if you're really interested.

It's worth reading, I think, unless your mind is already made up one way or the other.

Yes, and it's people on both sides of the aisle that are saying it's one way.

Was not aware of Palin getting death threats....

As a society we have become so ingrained with the concept that violence is the answer to anything, whether it be some type of political difference or just a street fight. Maybe we have been at war too long and things like collateral damage or so ingrained in our society we are completely desensitized..

Violence is not the answer, trying to influence any decisions by violence is not viable..

It will be interesting to see if any prosecutions result from these threats of violence... as most are fairly easy to trace if done on the internet.

It is getting tiring to continually see Sarah portraying herself as sometype of victim in this and any matter, she missed a great moment at redemption this week and really screwed up with these comments. Whoever is handling and scripting her needs a big time makeover..
