Agreed.
There are plenty of wackos out there, from Son of Sam who took messages from his dog to John Hinckley who thought a teenage actress, Jodie Foster was talking to him. There are stalkers like the one who killed Rebecca Schaffer and others too many to name.
Were the Beatles responsible for Charles Manson who wrote Helter Skelter at a crime scene???
Were Twinkies responsible for Dan White killing Harvey Milk??
You can blame it on anything you want. Doesn't make it true.
Only one person is directly responsible when something like this occurs.
Does that mean that other people's messages are beyond reproach? Is using target images (Palin) or talking about second amendment remedies (Angle) or quoting Jefferson re bloodshed simply because you're party isn't in power (much more fringe righties) sending a responsible message?
To me this reeks of hypocrisy. There were people on the right who condemned any criticism of Bush as irresponsible or even treason because we were "at war." I don't hear them criticizing any of these types messages, though.
Animal Farm, Brave New World, The Wizard Of OZ, Aesop Fables, The Odyssey, Alice Adventures Into Wonderland, Fahrenheit 451, Peter Pan, To Kill A Mockingbird, We The Living, Phantom Toll Booth, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Pulp,Through The Looking Glass, The Communist Manifesto, Siddhartha, The Old Man And The Sea, Gulliver's Travels, Mein Kampf, The Republic, and Meno

Look closer. There were many on this board who condemned Angle for her irresponsible comments as well as Palin for her gaffes. Despite what you think, the Right is no more monolithic than the Left.
It's probably been taken down in anticipation by knee-jerk reactions such as the one in the OP. It was even worse WHEN you did it, being that the news was brand new and we knew even less than we do now. Like I said, from the sounds of it, it sounds like this guy just snapped. Shot a conservative judge and a kid too. Did Sarah Palin advocate that?
The advocation of targeting candidates with scopes was pure Palin, the shoot an m16 rally to eliminate the candidate was pure tea-party bully tactics. The advocation of violent 2nd amendment remedies is dangerous.
The website was taken down because it advocated targeting a candidate who someone shot. It's evidence, and removing it shows a lot.
One other point, and it may be the much larger one, imo, depending on how this all turns out.
If he was a wacko at this point, and it sounds to me like he was, was he one before he went to Afghanistan? If not, either he had a mental health issue come up during those years, which is possible, particularly given his age, or his time fighting over there caused it. The latter, if the case, is an example of a huge problem that I believe our nation needs to face sooner than later. The mental health of veterans coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan is a problem. Maybe that's the case with all wars -- I don't know, but I'm not sure it matters, as I'm not bringing this up to condemn our actions over there.
Instead, I'm mentioning again that we have a serious problem and a responsibility not only to these vets but to their familes and friends, as well as the general public, to address the problem and get these vets the assistance they need.

I didn't say the right is monolithic, I didn't compare it to the left, and I wasn't necessarily referring to anybody at this board, as I wasn't on this board during Bush's years (I don't think -- I'd need to check my join date, I guess). (If there are members here who condemned criticisms of Bush as traitorous, then, yes, I would be referring to them.)
(btw, if you misunderstood my post I apologize -- upon re-reading I realize that "this reeks of hypocrisy" could have been read to apply to you. It wasn't. My fault if that was unclear.)
What a shame that such a serious subject about a very tragic situation. It deserves more then this POS kneejerk thread. I guess thats what we get in here.
Anyway... I wish her a full and complete recovery and offer my deepest condolences to the families of the deceased.
