On a serious and somber note ... a vet friend of mine went to the VA a few months ago and they told him he had a mouth infection, gave him some meds and told him to come back in a few weeks. He didn't have an infection - he had oral cancer and now he's dead.

There will be many stories like the above .... bet on it.

The VA serves a purpose but does anyone ever go there for something serious and not worry about it?

We have some vets here ... isn't the VA pretty much Obamacare?

I keep hearing about Britain's poor nationalized medicine on the BBC. For example, one notorious hospital, in order to meed its requirements of treating people in the emergency room by a certain amount to time, responds by keeping them in ambulances in the parking lot until they are able to do so.

And I remember coming across a statistic that the spending on people's medical care is largely from end-of-life treatment. So Sarah Palin, whom I don't support as she is a shrieking feminist, is probably correct in the "death penal" talk. That's where the biggest cost savings are. It's only rational under socialistic medicine--and we're half-way socialized now with Medicare and Medicaid--to reduce expenses.

I can hear it now: "Mr. Harry Boy, you've had a nice run. It's time to let go and make room for younger folk."

Death panels are coming. We say a little hint of that when the gubmit said breast exams would be paid for only every other year. They changed with the furor that ensued. People had been told for years that women after a certain age should receive annual exams.

Those Diarrhea Pigs in the White House and Congress shoved the Obama Sh1t Care down the peoples throat behind closed doors in the middle of the night then they wouldn't let anybody read it, the people let them get away with it so now I guess the people will have to live and die with it.

Word has it that the GOP will do their best to change things but ultimately we will end up with a single payer system which is the result many wanted anyways I believe. My problem is not Obama or the democrats in what they did ... my problem is still the quality - hard to see the quality we are used to in many cases maintained - I'm thinking the VA is what we will see.

Don't people claim the VA provides quality care?

Regardless, people who can afford it will always have access to the highest quality care. You can debate whether improved services for part of the population will require worsened services for others, and, if so, whether this tradeoff is desireable, but there will still be quality care.
