Default Say a Prayer, Please

For those already dead and for those who are critically injured.

My son is still trying to locate a friend of ours who was on duty this morning. It was not his engine which would have responded first but his station is in the area and they extra-alarmed it.

Two firefighters died after a wall collapsed during a 3-11 alarm fire at an abandoned South Side commercial building this morning, authorities said. Fourteen other firefighters were injured, including two who were trapped with the ones who died.

Police squad cars escorted two ambulances north on Lake Shore Drive to Northwestern as ramps were closed to clear it of traffic, according to fire communications. One of the firefighters taken there has died, sources said. The condition of the other one was not known.

A third trapped firefighter was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died.

The fourth firefighter buried in the rubble, and as many as 12 other firefighters with undisclosed injuries, were also taken to hospitals. Fire officials and sources said 10 were stable and six were taken to hospitals in serious to critical condition, including the two who later died.

I saw this, I have already prayed, we had a few scary times in my home when my son was working.

Mikey's okay. I'll let the Mrs. fill in the details. Thanks to everybody. Friends and family > politics.

I hope the families and friends of those who died or were injured find some solace in the courage of their loved ones, and I certainly hope your son's friend is okay.

Scary story ... brought flashbacks of the horrific Worcester fire some years ago. Those men were killed searching for homeless people also. How often firemen perish looking for people that may or may not be in there and they do it bravely.

Thanks, everyone. Mikey was ok...we're still waiting for word on a few other acquaintances. My son works for the City of Chicago and has been on the firefighters list for a few years now.....he's got quite a few friends who are firefighters there.

We are all so sad for the families of the lost and injured. Everyone knows firefighting is a dangerous job but no one really thinks anything will happen to them...and then it does and we're all reminded.
